His father, Milutin Tesla was a Serbian Orthodox Priest and his mother Djuka Mandic was an inventor in her own right of household appliances. Tesla studied at the Realschule, Karlstadt in 1873, the Polytechnic Institute in Graz, Austria and the University of Prague. At first, he intended to specialize in physics and mathematics, but soon he became fascinated with electricity. He began his career as an electrical engineer with a telephone company in Budapest in 1881.
It was there, as Tesla was walking with a friend through the city park that the elusive solution to the rotating magnetic field flashed through his mind. With a stick, he drew a diagram in the sand explaining to his friend the principle of the induction motor. Before going to America, Tesla joined Continental Edison Company in Paris where he designed dynamos. While in Strassbourg in 1883, he privately built a prototype of the induction motor and ran it successfully. Unable to interest anyone in Europe in promoting this radical device, Tesla accepted an offer to work for Thomas Edison in New York. His childhood dream was to come to America to harness the power of Niagara Falls.
Young Nikola Tesla came to the United States in 1884 with an introduction letter from Charles Batchelor to Thomas Edison: "I know two great men,” wrote Batchelor, "one is you and the other is this young man.” Tesla spent the next 59 years of his productive life living in New York. Tesla set about improving Edison’s line of dynamos while working in Edison’s lab in New Jersey. It was here that his divergence of opinion with Edison over direct current versus alternating current began. This disagreement climaxed in the war of the currents as Edison fought a losing battle to protect his investment in direct current equipment and facilities.

Far too many, including friends of mine, went to school and think they learned all there is or enough about electricity and the laws of nature to believe what their professors were told by their professors, is all there is. Yet most confuse a usable Theory in some circumstances with an all encompassing Fact. The tell tale is that Tesla is only a mention, a by line, rather than repeating many of his experiments in physics or electrical engineering classes.
Few know that after AC, he developed high frequency pulsed DC electricity. Far superior to AC, especially inside a home or building, but the investments in infrastructure had already been made. It isn't hot but cold. It is far safer since it travels on the outside of your body rather than through. There are videos of individuals replicating what they term Tesla's Hairpin circuit, holding a powered wire in one hand, a light bulb in the other, and submerging lit bulb in hand under water. Not something I'd recommend with household AC until you up your life insurance. That is why he was able to play with so called "lightning". It was of a different nature that traveled over the skin instead of frying you ike a lightning bolt does to a tree.
Does that mean there is more than one type of electricity and that they purposely decided to keep Tesla info out of the textbooks? It would seem so. For what purpose? Maybe the powers that be would rather keep you addicted to oil, gas, and nuclear. Items in which they control.

In Livermore, Ca. There is a road named Tesla Rd. Its where the Lawrence Livermore National Radiation Laboratory resides. Lawrence Livermore invented the Atom Bomb. The Gov. used his tech. back then and publicly ridiculed him.

I've read some of these comments on here and I have just actually started looking a lot more into the wonderful man Nikola Tesla. I am shamed I haven't earlier. I was talking to a friend today and he was wanting to do something with brain waves to control computer simulated objects to play a video game. (Keep in mind we are only sophomores in high school.) I told him it was a cool idea and he needed to look into things that Tesla did. Shockingly he did not know who it is. To think that you want to endeavor in such a project and not know the very man behind the scenes of it is mind-blowing. Yes Tesla was robbed, through and through, and for what? Like everything good in this world, government, politics, money and under-education. Government knows shit about the great things that science does, they just want to control you and make sure you stay mindless and useful to them, which ties into money, because only id*ots know that money can't buy you happiness. But sometimes we need to set that greed factor aside and just accomplish, which ties in to our next roadblock, terrible education, without people thoroughly knowing what our technology is and will be doing for them and our society, they will not support it, but only awe in its amusement factors. Even Tesla himself did not know all the capabilities, and functions of his inventions and great doings. So we need a medium, first we need everyone to be freaking educated and not be so selfish and ignorant to change, government and politics need to step aside unless they want to help fund or get people interested, and the money flows in. Who knows where we would be now if we had wireless electricity for the last 60 years, got rid of DC about the same time, had wireless boats and radio before the end of the 1800's etc... If people understood Tesla's actual genius instead of just admired it, we would be living in a far more advanced society right not. Who says there couldn't be people that saw practical use of Tesla's inventions when he himself only thought of it as a great idea. Just think, what if we, at this time in society, was pushed back and in the late 1800's we are where we are now. In the year 2013, where will we be?

Tesla was ignored because he was not understood and because there is no money in free energy. Towards the end of his life as he had proven his ideas into reality and after his death the government confiscated all his work.
Tesla was a Serbian inventor born to a Serbian family. The part of today's Croatia where he was born, Lika, had been Serbian land for centuries - this is easily confirmed by hundreds of Eastern Orthodox Churches. To claim that he was born in Croatia or Austria Hungary would not be an accurate claim.
He also was in competition with Thomas Edison to electrify NYC. However, Edison tortured and killed many animals in his promotions.(Fro Elephants to cats and dogs). Which were aimed at showing how unsafe Tesla's methods were. This was beneath Tesla and he lost the competition to an unscrupulous and inferior businessman who misled the public and the government.

Nicola Tesla was, in my opinion the greatest inventor ever to live. Edison was just a fraction of the genius of Tesla. Edison was very business savvy and smart I'm sure but he was a bad man with a dark heart. What Tesla had in raw brainpower, he lacked in social restraint. This documentary did a good job giving credit to Tesla but in my opinion, it did a horrible job in presenting the facts... It went on and on about the resonant frequency of the earth and brain waves and actually blamed the "Russian woodpecker" Duga-3 over the horizon radar system for the NY blackout and controlling the minds of New Yorkers.. Hmmm.. The power goes out in NYC and people start acting crazy... Must be a Russian mind control device!!! give me a break.. And don't even get me started on what they say about HAARP.... "it can channel a bolt of lightning with the power of Several Mt St Helens eruptions per second!!" OMG!!! pleeeze.. Notice that statement or anything like it didn't come from the designer of HAARP. Tesla (born in Croatia) is maybe the only scientist that keeps inspiring all spheres of human interests -writers, painters, sculptors, musicians, other scientists, thinkers... He is clearly hundreds of years in front of his time... on one occasion he discussed about einstein's creating energy from the atom splitting (and about using fossil fuels for that matter) claiming that it is totally wrong path -no energy should be created on destruction- he noted- energy must be harness with creation... more than a hundred years ago he talked about pollution, and yes -he discovered how to have free energy for all humanity (once you study it it really makes sense and it is quite simple, but money cartels think that we are not yet ready for it)-in that sense he is the only and true Prometheus!!!
Tesla was born in Austro-Hungarian Empire. Croatia does not exist at the time Tesla was born. Todays Croatia was created in 1991. Get your facts straight!
Maybe the world doesn't or didn't now about Nikola Tesla and great things that
he made, but everyone here in post Yugoslavian countries known's very well about him and his work, he is the greatest man that world ever had and we need to be grateful on those things that he gave us.
I wish someone would put a quality doco together about Tesla that doesn't have constant scene changes and annoying music. Listening to experts talking for longer than 10 seconds really helps the viewer to have a deeper understanding of the subject. When watching this I felt like a was only watching a trailer and the real thing was going to kick in any moment. Does anyone know of a good quality doco about Tesla and his inventions?
There were a few great minds recognised that stood out around the world up until the 70s and 80s.
I'm not saying people aren't recognised now, but I wonder if fewer people are well known due to a much larger Scientific community and a saturation of the media.

Swami Vivekananda was truly a great Yogi never mentioned in US. Probably because he rocked the religious conference in 1893 and shocked the deeply Christian culture. His ideas still are available in his complete works compilation.
Watchers of this documentary would also like to read book: The Tao of physics by Fritjof Capra where he draws parallels between eastern thought and present scientific understanding.

Tesla was a true visionary ultra genius, and humanatarian. It's a shame that his ideas were suppressed and ridiculed and stolen to further ones own monetary situation. One might wonder if what if he was alive in this day and age and working on his ideas how he might be taken or what may have been accompolished. The idea that energy could be harnessed just from the surrounding air or tapped from the Earth itself without wires was quite fasinating.
About the thing on how he had most of his ideas from dreams, a few of inventions came from this mode one that comes to mind at the moment is the sewing machine needle. Makes me wonder if some of my dreams actually could be possible ideas, i just guess that how to interpret them is the first step.
Visionaries like Tesla are the key to human advancement. Unfortunately they are not likely to be active in developed countries in the future. After watching many documentaries, and reading more comments, I for the first time am compelled to comment. Free energy does not, and never will exist. There is no conspiracy, from any government in the history of this planet, or any other to repel, hide or hold secret the basic fundamental laws of physics.
That depends on what one means by "free energy". "Free" could mean that it takes no human effort or consumption of a resource to obtain a useful form of energy. It can still come from a perfectly valid source; energy cannot be created or destroyed, only converted to one form from another. I think what Tesla thought he could harness was the combined electrical activity of the atmosphere; to basically focus the world's lightening to one spot and harness it...ultimatly that would be solar energy stored in the weather system that was being collected.

The greatest blunder of the United States Government was not recognizing the creative resource it had in Nikola Tesla. A man 100 to 200 years ahead of his time, the United States Government was unable to recognize and take advantage of his genius to understand the electro-magnetic world / universe we live in.

One of the biggest discoveries of Nikola Tesla not mentioned in the this documentary is his discovery that electricity in its natural form exists as a gaseous substance throughout the entire universe. Gaseous was the best way for Tesla to describe it, but probably in a plasma form is better.
The entire universe as Tesla was discovering is not held together by the theory of relativity, but rather by electro-magnetic forces. This is why Tesla was confident that the future of the universe and its composition belong to him based on everything he was discovering in his research.
How ironic that Tesla's discoveries of limitless power were held back by the industrialists of the 2oth century and the limited capacities of the United States government to understand what it had in the resource of Tesla.
By not recognizing and supporting Tesla once his abilities were proven the United States government encouraged Tesla to share his secret discoveries with other world governments.
One of the greatest failings of mankind today and especially in the west is the capitalistic system requirements for projects to have to make money. People and inventions do not have to make money. This is a requirement imposed on society by capitalism. In this particular case of Tesla and the transmission of universal energy it was one of the single greatest losses to mankind of the 20th century.
It will be rediscovered as all lost inventions are but for the moment it is the single greatest loss of energy that would have transformed the United States of America and later the world. People's greed can be so stupid at times.
How can we learn from Tesla's genius and improve social systems for when it appears again. The United States government needs to have programs in place that allow individuals like Tesla to have resources available to carry out their research without interference. As discoveries are made and initial benefits realized not to jump to conclusions as to is good or bad but to rather let the research continue.
It is unfortunate but some of the dumbest people in our society run our countries today. They are the politicians whose goal is to simply lie to get people to vote for them. Great for getting elected but very poor in recognizing true genius in the talent of its scientific minded citizens.
But the worst condition for American society is its obsessive nature that products must generate a profit and make money. This thinking is completely wrong and holds our society back. New products and inventions do not need to make money and do not need to make a profit. It is that thinking that had gotten us into our current mess and obsession with oil.
Had Tesla's invention of free transmitted energy been allowed, cars today would all be electric powered by free transmitted energy (which Tesla also invented). But they are not. Cars today are all gasoline powered and between 2020 and 2030 their will be insufficient oil resources to power our modern day oil based infrastructure.
Oil that could have been used for oil based products and making electric cars for hundreds of years has now been wasted on making gasoline powered cars that have a limited 100 year future based on the resource. Short term thinking on making money rather than on much longer term societal needs.
Reading up on Tesla's free energy transmission of power is really something. Without a doubt Tesla is simply one of the greatest inventors of the world, because of his fundamental understanding of the electro-magnetic universe we live in.
There is no shortage of energy in the world. Rather there is a shortage of desire to exploit this free energy source that completely surrounds the Earth and all of space. Why? Because it is too important for our current society to be able to make money from an energy source. Our irrational greed is our downfall.

Well said , I really enjoyed reading your post. It made me think on a whole new level about our energy resources. I can't believe that most of our society the world governments and corporate conglomerates are so concerned about money that they ignore the fact that our planet is running out of resources just to line their own pockets , but i guess greed makes people do stupid things and be selfish. I hope Tesla's dream comes true and for the world to wake up and realize that we need to take care of our planet and use our resources wisely because at the rate things are going right now I predict were heading for self destruction. Earth might be the only planet in the universe that supports life.
excellent comment, it does sum up a lot about science, society, economy and human nature in general. Bottom line, if people were not so evil and selfish (especially those who run our governments and finances) then the benevolent characters and ideas would not be suppressed. I'm sure that at least 3 governments in the world have the technology of Tesla all worked out and perfected , but why would they want to give the humanity free energy extracted from the earth and the atmosphere or whatever, if the few powerful men in the world can't make profit of it. I mean, we live in a time when a few centers of power are releasing viruses and creating epidemics only to sell vaccines and medications so that their corporations can make profits. Good old-fashioned doing good to fellow man has no room in modern world, that's why i think in the decades to come people like Tesla are going to be much more acknowledged for their humanitarian ideology.

I doubt any study is coherent, specially labeling societies under 1000s of people, but subliminal information is quiet powerful, so, when you make a production line of bones and flesh, I guess it does make it easy to feet millions in the behavior of 110 different types...
the point, most "honest "people, when giving the chance of dishonesty, if they think they wont be caught, they will cheat.
Also, it states, that key locks, are useless... ( and they are ) because any professional would open any , anytime. So, there fore, they are use to keep honest people "honest", not burglars away.
In my opinion, humans are the worst type of animal in this planet... and only, the animals that have the will to change their inner self on their own, become neutral...

yeah that annoyed me incredibly! so I went looking for that exert but cant find it anywhere. I even downloaded the entire documentary from a separate source and still that same part has been crudely erased... I wanna know why.
Where can I find more about Tesla's inventions? This documentary is the most descriptive info source I've found. I know some stuff about the spirit realm, actually, another name for the quantum realm, but I don't see how that knowledge provides insight for free energy. Yes, Tesla sure was God blessed. The capitalists won't hold his secrets forever though. It's a struggle among spirits in the quantum but we need warriors in the physical as well to get the information back and to cooperate with the Earth once again to sustain us.
as per usual altruistic scientists have their ideas stolen and exploited for the personal gain of the money minded, instead of the free benefit of all society. socialistic thinking does work sometimes, the BBC and NHS testify to that.
I really like the way Tesla sent parts of his work to different gov'ts in order to try and bypass the money minded grabbistic fat cats, unfortunately it didn't work out as he'd hoped. All hail teslsa and the future Teslaites.

Have read most of the literature on Nicola Tesla. More than much impressed with the ideas, which are just now being now understood. Just not in their entirity. Merely the superficial less complicated dialog.
Enjoyed all the comments, much impressed with the youthful interest in Tesla, he was a singular personality.

Extraordinary! Read once a book of a Canadian physicist, tasked by the Canadian government to establish the possibility of Tesla's work coming through. He eventually wrote a negative report to his gov't as he didn't believe Tesla's ideas were feasible, but in the process of discovering Tesla's work, he became enchanted with his genius. Now I see that some governments (primarily the US gov't but not only) have used him not to enhance the well being of the human race, as he would have wanted, but for the usual destructive purposes, I have no doubt about it whatsoever.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Very interesting I had read much about the vedas and Jainist/Buddhist thought despite not actually having read a translation - much of their science still considered metaphysics by the public domain, Nicola Tesla obviously related to - maybe he even thought of himself in the enlightened in the Jain sense. I thought his ideas on resonance originated independently - maybe they did and he just found some of the truth in eastern religion.
One thing that amazes me is his lack of fear- with lightning bolts flying around him, how did he know. A power such as electromagnetism, resonance, and karma. He gained insight far beyond the ordinary person. A key question of mine is.. how. I consider myself wise but lacking in resources of the mind (intelligence) and physical wealth. Tesla had both wisdom and intelligence and had little need for conventional possessions. His greatest asset was his mind. While can only philosophize, I lack the certainty of mathematical skill. Was it genetics? His mother was an inventor, while the father seems to be in opposition as a priest to his wife and sons interests.
Many ideas here connect with the eastern thought of weave, chakra, Karma, and ancient Ley/chakra lines of the earth.
I now know where the russian SCENAR physical therapy technology comes from originally! As well as the quantum wave (resonance) technology that can imitate through wave/vibrations or stimulate certain reactions in the human body. I was actually briefly treated with it.... To expensive to continue though.
Tesla indeed is probably the character we should look to when attempting to develop unified field theory. His comment later about relativity having it's time now and his science in the next century is indeed profoundly true. The problems of life, and the small mindedness of those around him in the human community seemed to be brushed aside by him. Awesome is the only word to describe the man and his mind. I find the cartoon with superman vs tesla as a paradigm for both his time and ours. The average people fear the intelligent - those they do not understand. So superman is a personification of the naive brute among us - the crusader, while tesla is the evil genius. Is genius evil then? Perhaps it is only jealousy.
