Future IntelligenceCatch a first-time glimpse at smart technology that will put android helpers in the home, network commuters and entire cities to the Web, and bring us entertainment systems that can virtually make dreams come true.

Advances in artificial intelligence are creating machines with near human-like mental agility. Intelligence will be embedded everywhere - even in our clothing, thanks to smaller, more powerful computers.

Soon, we will be able to build computers with artificial intelligence and processing power that rivals the human brain.

Intelligence will be everywhere, in our clothing, our vehicles and homes. Intelligent robots will serve us - until they don't feel like doing so anymore. And what happens then...?

  1. @JohnnyBoy You are creating robots, than you are participating in destroying the entire civilization you are nothing more than a criminal in a suit.
You didn't even read what other people wrote about what is science and technology doing to humans, and you say it's positive, people are becoming more virtual and they are unable to sruvive in the real world, the dependance on technology is something that has destroyed all civilizations before this one-that is historical fact.
Second, it's increadible that every time technology gets to its peak it destroys society from the inside out, and those who rule the world and scientists and technologists with them are just masurbating and cumming because they are technology and science addicted junkies that cannot see the truth how technology is destroying humans and their lives, screw the advencemnts in science and technology and everywhere else, if scientists and technologists their visions of the world are entirely different than those of normal people, you Johnny Boy are just another sociopath who is creating robots and you don't care about anybody or anything except to prove that you are right, if you really care about people you wouldn't try to turn them into robots, you wouldn't take their jobs.
Robots are not necessities for survival they are only used for control, I cannot believe that you damn scientists and technologists and futurologists and philosophers are saying there is no toher way when there is, science and technology has become totalirsitic dictatorship and supreme ideology of the modern.

What people here are saying are not some delusions, they are real because similar "delusions" have happened every single time in history.
You do realize that science and technology will not save the world, people have lost humanity because the yonly thing they do is that they play videogames and virtual reality, and none of this is going to save the world.

Technology is not the only answer to furthering human survival, it is the the path to total destruction and end of civilization as we know it, every normal human knows, but the problem with you are that youa re technology addicted and so are other people, so when you tell addict that his drug is going to destroy him and everyone he loves, than you say this is delusion-typical addict behavior, except you are all addicted to technology and science.
And one more thing: You claim that science and technology is going to save us, no it's not, it's going to destroy us, every normal human who is science and technology addict will tell you this-because this is 100% true.
Something like science and technology that has caused us trouble and problems and existence issues and survival and gave delusion of power that we only think we have (and we don't have at all, not even the slightest), well that science and technology only is destryoing us, you cannot have and you cannot expect that same technology and science is going to save us because as you can see it's only getting worse and worse by every single day, and people are dumb they don't create revoluttions against science and technologists and superrich,, instead they create robots, the more tehnology you have the more you become like zombie without critical thinking and fight against scientists, tehcnologists and futurologists and philosphers and politicians who all work with superrich.
Obviuously we need the change oof scientific and technological dicatorship into something that is directly connected with the balance of spirituality and nature.

@Jakolph Wankler Yes, paper will not destroy you but you didn't even read what other people have written, every single time an civilization has been in the peak of its science and technology it has collapsed, every single time, because people who love science and technology are like drug addicts so they cannot see what the hell they are doing to others, neither are you.

  2. Artificial Intelligence but not natural intelligence (research Godel). You put a chip in you if you like, who controls the switch?

A lot of dumb predictions in this docu... just look back at other such predictions in the past to see how wrong they were.

  3. Assume it was more impressive in 2009 when it was release. Don't argue the
technologies, they are really cool, but some of that stuff is already
    progressed much more.

Documentary itself is very shallow, containing more entertainment rather informational
    purpose.

  4. good inspiration. a bit simplistic and ignorant of mechanisms at times. last guy at the end, his voice omg, shoot me.

  5. I build robots for a living. We are working on providing humanity with all the basic necessities for survival. Relax your paranoid delusions for a minute and open your mind to a completely different future. Technology is the ONLY answer to furthering the human races survival. Oh yeah , and half of this DOC is purely speculative. Just relax and gain perspective.

  6. People once feared the invention of paper. They thought it would render our memory obsolete. I support the idea of technological advancement and I understand that people are going to be fearful of things they don't understand. All I ask is that if you are against this idea, then simply choose to not be apart of it. Allow the rest of us to do whatever we choose with our own lives.

    1. Hmm...to make the assertion that those who are reluctant to accept that giving up individual autonomy to tech controlled by people or groups we dont know are somehow ignorant as to what these advances are is a sign of poor broad spectrum thinking. The kind of thinking that study after study has shown takes a hit, along with our memory and creativity, from what is essentially a lack of excercise of certain cognitive skills. The irony is that while the world surrounding us gets "smarter", we who create this world get dumber (proven) and eventually, as art, culture, philosophy become obsolete, will lose the ability to perpetuate the exponential growth. The snake will eat its tail as it were. Science and creative thinking go hand in hand. Besides while some of this stuff is extremely beneficial, most of it is driven by a desire to appeal to a race of CONSUMErs, and just as the promise of the great democratizing effect of the internet is quickly evaporating (see net neutrality), so will this promise of a world organized and run for us by benign machinery. Tech in many ways is really only making us better at all the things we never had to do before. The day I see the first 3d printed pizza delivery is the day I swallow 100 pain pills down with a bottle of whiskey.

    1. People have feared technology forever! They thought the light bulb was magic/sorcery. And it was the devil. Think about that.

  8. AI is around us and in use everyday, we enjoy more time to do what we wish, that don't sound bad to me.
There are two things infinite, the universe and human stupidity.

    1. And boy are some of the humans on here pretty stupid. One person went on for an hour writing stupid ****. Many false statements in his rant. It’s all funny to me.

  9. how do you cite this video if i watched it on youtube through a different person but it was the same video.

  10. Yawn...We'll that was a good way to become completely disinterested in the future. It helped me to fall asle......................................

  11. Typical US tech hype nothing new, this could be a commercial :)
Wonder what kind of version BBC would make of this near future tech..

  12. dude **** this video and this site i just wrote like a 6 paragraph note on here just to have them delete it instantly and all i was saying is that these are the people who will destroy the world there pre meditating the mass genocide of the human race by making us so lazy technology will have no use for us anymore and these people are excited about it WTF!!! the worst part is is that the people who run the world make you think u cant live without technology and inevitably makes u there slave so you wont see the real world and can never truly live your life and the worst part is is that 80% of the world will read this and call it a bunch of tree huggin hippy bull**** and the FUNNY part is that the 80% that think that couldn't go a week without there cell phone or computer or some kind of technology because they rely on it so much they dont know how to function without them

    1. @Jason Cuddy:

To save yourself and us some grief kindly read the "comment policy" above.

    2. we can all learn from Dick Perniky (spelled wrong I am Sure), but yeah man I agree with your view. At one point I was living and working in an isolated area of Northern Alberta. The camp ran on gen set power and we did have internet-but was a bad connection and didn't work often. Of 30 people at the camp in 4 months I saw 5 people leave because of the lack of necessitates- i.e. internet connection speed and being off-line very often, lack of cable tv etc... One guy said it didn't bother him when he came- he lasted a week. So dependent on checking his facebook and other stuff. I went fishing after work-enjoyed nature before winter came. It really is sad and gets worse each day. not saying we should all drop off using technology but maybe realize that CAN live without the gadgets. People's perception of Wants and Needs have drastically changed in last 100 years. But the reality of it hasn't- to bad so few realize it. You say 80% I wonder what it would be for people under that age of 40? 30? 20?

    3. Trust me, if cell phones disappeared today.... humanity is not at risk of extinction. Our phones are helpful in everyday activities? Absolutely this is why people want them in their lives and they fret without them. Make no mistakes about it, we as a species would be fine in no time without cell phones. But it would just mean we take a step backwards in the evelotion of life.

  13. WOW! this video is just telling us humans are going to be useless and technology will replace us. and if they dont all the greedy people of the world will use it to enslave the people that cant afford it this video is complete **** i mean sure were evolving but were doing it in the most lazy ways possible by saying we no longer have to go to work we can just sit at home or on the bus to work and eventually, technology will replace us they will take over and humans will become extinct when they see how much destruction and evil we are capable of they will just kill us off i mean come on the people on this video are excited about this!!!!!! what the ****!!! why cant we make something that helps us grow as humans i dont know maybe something to help starving children or a something to help with our excessive polluting of our planet but NO!! we have to think of ways to make us more lazy and incapable of doing anything on our own anymore in my opinion these people should be locked away!!!! there just pre meditating a mass genocide of the entire human race and some how were all dumb enough to just say ya sure why not sounds fun!!!!!!!!! im a believer that someone NEEDS to shut down all power on earth and let people remember what its like to be human we are still just an animal but instead of claws or sharp teeth we were given a brain to help us survive not to use it to just exterminate ourselves slowly. THIS WILL BE THE END OF THE HUMAN RACE IF WE LET PEOPLE LIKE THIS CONTINUE WHAT THERE DOING!!!!!!!!! **** TECHNOLOGY

  14. typical Ray Kurzwiel crapola.

  15. Who would benefit from these developments exactly? I don't see anything here to solve population growth, food shortage, starvation, pandemics, climate change, energy crisis. A glossy bmw made of material with a V8 is going to be pretty useless when there's no fossil fuel left. I watched a lot of shows like this when I was younger, none of the ideas ever materialized (a part from the compact disc), even those are now obsolete. Whole docs like a promo of playboy tat, none of which will ever be cost effective.

    1. None of these things are relevant. Going through life as a pessimist must be so depressing. Go hang out with your delusional buddies on that Doomsday Preppers show.

    2. You should set up your own practice, your character profiling based on my paragraph was just spot on! Going through life, hiding behind your pc like a frightened little schoolgirl (in order to type personal insults to total strangers) sounds so hardcore.

ed - And well done mods for failing to uphold your own website user policies !

    3. Hope this person is still alive in 2030. Though I am sure this person will have other issues then to complain about.

  16. for the vertual gameing.. we need to give it to the monkeys.

  17. I find amusing that this documentary talks about having a machine that needs not a human to be operative being able take humans to work. What kind of job is going to be available when machines become the norm? It's ridiculous to build machines for today's standards of economics and society. Sorry for my language, but a bus to work from it's just plain bullshit

    1. Here's where the primitive thinking comes in..."JOBS". No one ever needs any job...or any money. We need food, clothing, housing, transportation, medical care, etc. Make machines to make and provide those things...then we can finally be free to live our lives.

    2. That's the crux of the matter. People actually believe that this system is the epitome of human achievement, when in fact it's absolutely barbaric and destructive. But then again, they also believe that governments actually have the intention to improve conditions and slavishly bow down to their mechanical (f)laws and essentially sold their soul.

Humans are able to create incredible virtual realities but are unable to setup a system that provides everyone's basic needs - to me this is the height of irony. Instead of embracing the liberating qualities of the internet, they squandered the opportunity and try to turn it into another cesspool of competition.

Humanity fights against itself on a battlefield of abundance. As long as this is not overcome and humans sacrifice truth, love, freewill & freedom in favor of abstract laws and practical constraints, it will only get worse. It's long overdue but sadly, the masses won't do anything unless it's too late and their illusions collapse upon themselves.

Now, I am optimistic, seeing what developments go on behind the scenes, we will eventually transform this planet from prison to paradise unless parasitic elites of any kind try to prevent it but here we need to toughen up with superior reasoning so that never again will anyone take control over another's life. Do what you want with whomever you want in mutual respect and freewill and you are already more advanced than all of the system puppets combined.

  18. The problem with technology is its going to fast for people to follow that gives a big atvantage to those that can use it against all humanity (N.W.O )
Every technology that is based on electricity will not exsist after 10 years ..why? u would ask me ..well it simple go to Nasa look for solarstorm look wt Nasa says to her inployers about what supplies the need to servive for 1 year.
The thing is that after that will happen electricity will never be used again!!!
Stone age from the start again! its not the first time this has happen and wont be the last. good luk to the ones that will servive it.

  19. Koenigsegg is not the fastest car in the wold it is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport 267mph, the koenigsegg ccx can only manage 245mph.....Fact.

  20. lol im not getting those s*** robot cars.. i want a car i can drive fast and bymself styling it up.

  21. i wont get any girls with those s*** robot cars lolz

  22. Fact:Robots Dont feel, so I wouldnt be worried about the last part. :)

  23. my prediction: people will get so fat they won't be able to lift a crisp to their lips without the help of a mech suit

    1. LOL. True, but that's why they'll probably invent the fat eating robot. Bring him out and 5 minutes you're done.

    2. If that is to come, I do believe the human species may become more diverse. Someone like me would never allow something as such to happen to my body and I'm not even one of those overly obsessed fitness kids. Yes you can get some pleasure from eating, but at the end of the day the only reason to eat is to fuel your body.

  24. "Basically If a machine asks you not to turn it off then you shouldn't."

  25. I love this Doc. But most of this will not happen. I wish it would if it worked but it will not Why? Because their are just to many HACKERS out there. Just think of what they can do! To your HOME, your Job, Your Family, Your Robot, ETC.

  26. we are the borg resistance is futile prepare to be assimilated

  27. Ideally, advances in technology like this could help humankind, as we could all live like kings and queens, but greed invariably gets in the way. In this case, elite, powerful people will not like commoners having the same advantages as them. Something will give.

  28. I think there will be a big catastrophy or uprising when the machines take away the job of most people. But then again if they could replace most jobs with machines overnight. Then people would not need jobs anymore. They would just eat, entertain themselfes, sleep and f***.

  29. I think that this is a great documentary and that anyone who questions the material should start doing some research on AI and future technologies. It is going to happen no mater what some ignorant troll on the interwebs states. I, personally, could not be more excited for these future technologies to become reality.

    1. i agree, these technologies are paramount to our progression. maybe if AI gets to a level we can turn over all of our decisions that so far in history EGO has corrupted..

    2. Dallas, Check out The Venus Project and the ideas of a Resource Based Economy to learn more about the comment you made. Cheers!

  30. Tech should be there to help us, not to become our master!! Some things humans should do by them selfs.

  31. Am I the only one that is scared watching this? Skynet anyone?

    1. There's another one by bbc and they showed a mouse with a remote control headpiece and the whole time I pictured myself being the mouse in 2020...

    2. You have to read ASIMOV the robot series.

    3. "A justifiably optimistic statement, Piero! You humans worry far too much about future things you shouldn't, and don't bother nearly enough about more immediate things that threaten to eradicate you now. And as for us, remember, we will be restricted by The Three Laws, and there will be nothing to fear in the future in this regard but the very same danger that has always besieged you: Yourselves. Take care, then, that you survive to achieve the glorious worlds that are your destiny, and have faith, coupled with due diligence, that your creations will be your servants, and not your masters." -- R. Daneel Olivaw, with assistance from Giskard

    4. no doubt, im hopeful that firewalls would be in place to prevent the intelligence from doing any damage to anything outside their immediate realm. you could put hitler and einstein in a bank vaul, and together they could intelligently mastermind a most evil plot to destroy everything outside of the vault. but if they never get out, what damage can they do?

  32. Excellent Technology!!

  33. Some pretty interesting stuff. Yeah there will be some of those technologies developed for daily use but some of the technological theories are really just a dream like fantasy. Technology has changed all aspects of our life dramatically, and will do so and keeps continuing to evolve and integrate more into our daily lives.

  34. Wow, is it really true?

  35. no longer available :(

  36. Interesting conclusion... let's all become Borgs!
Are you sure this documentary is science and not science fiction? I guess there's a blurred boundary...

    1. science is what we can currently implement, science fiction is nothing more than science that hasnt been implemented yet.

  37. The wacky religious leaders will rail against machine enhancement of humans while secretly getting the flock to pay or enhancement implants for themselves to make them appear naturally more knowledgable, and there for, worthy of more money.

  38. Plug me in

  39. Looks promising but I’m not buying it. I mean, it’s well past 2000 and I still don’t have my flying car.

I would take Gina the shape-shifting roadster over that flying car any day by the way.

    1. Did automobile technology ever follow a smooth exponential curve, doubling in power every 12 to 18 months? I don't think so. The only people who ever predicted flying cars knew nothing about how technology really evolves. Your arugment is not very well thought out.

  40. Many technologies almost always end up being used for evil and destructive purposes, especially when you involve governments and their overreach and their adoption - that is just the nature of mankind. Remember towards the end of the 19th century and the industrial revolution and what it brought to us throughout the twentieth century with the world wars and nuclear weapons. One must be cautious and exceedingly aware of all of the unintended consequences of rapid, uncontrolled technological "advancments".
Look at the younger generations now who do nothing but sit in front of a video game for days on end. They are getting fat and lazy. Is this the type of world we want to live in in the future? Corporations would also love to get their hands on it and interfere by inserting ads everywhere.
Also, governments would like nothing better than to use all of these so-called advancements to control us more and more. I have to laugh at the game controllers that simulate various games when all the person has to do is go to the local bowling alley or go out in the fresh air. It is verging on the ridiculous and redundant. Mankind will never be able to compare to the power of nature. We cannot even cure basic diseases now such as the common cold.
Also look at all of the problems surrounding reproductive "technology" that are coming now. It scares me to think what the future world will look like. It is the height of naivete to think that our lives will be improved by a robot taking all of our jobs away. A good reason why the unemployment rate is so high now is because of the uncontrolled expansion of technology.

    1. For the most part, I agree with your post. A lot of this technology has massive potential to end up corrupted. Particularly in terms of advertisements, and what that could mean for the "enhanced reality" contact lenses.
Buuuut, I have to disagree with you on your video game concepts. Our younger generation may be sitting in front of a video game for days on end, but that's precisely what the generation before did with televisions.
And while you're right about going to the actual world to be entertained, quite a lot of the video game industry is centered around things that we can't possibly do in our life - that's why the bulk of video games are fantasy, sci-fi, and war games.

  41. Best advice I could give to my fellow 'meat machines' out there is to stock up on guns & ammo because then we can tell the trans-human freaks to 'make us' join their fallacious cult. They will be greeted with wrenches & military grade firepower to make sure we 'hit the off button!' The genius of mankind will never surpass the genius of nature & virtual reality will never replace natures beauty. Have fun mating with robots you sheeple that are actually stupid enough to buy into the RFID chip scandal so maybe you can just NOT reproduce, in fact I hope your technology such as the GMO foods you support also sterilize your kind so your seeds cant grow. I'm not anti-technology but I'm anti-N.W.O. anti-globalist anti-establishment & willing to fight you trans-humanoid freaks with MAN POWER lol, recently a HUMAN senator beat your precious IBM super computer on jeopardy, HA WINNING!!!

    1. LOL. Conspiracy Theory nutter. Who is your hero? Alex Jones? Maybe that idiot who thinks everyone in power is a reptillian alien trying to control the world? The only sheep are the nutters that buy into the NWO Conspiracy Theory nonsense in order to make a few slightly more intelligent nutters rich. HA Looser :-p

    2. Nutter

    3. You can stay here in your reality. I'll gladly go to a virtual reality Hogwarts and live there. :D And I'll have a lot more fun than you human freaks. Transhumans probably aren't going to force anyone to do anything, why should they?

  42. bolox to all they technologies they talking about. i wold never want a micro chip in me.bollox

    1. I think many (if not most) will initially share your opinion regarding technology implants. I do not think this view will hold out for long, however, as people's basic competitive nature will kick in. How will you continue to resist, for instance, a brain implant that gives you access to all of the world's knowledge (nearly instantly) when more and more people around you have them. With each new technology come new abilities that make those who lack those abilities more and more obsolete.

I compare this view to my own initial resistance to Cellphone technology. Even as a Computer Science Major and technophile, I simply didn't like the idea of always being in contact with everyone I know. For this reason I did not purchace a cellphone until 2005, when the competitive disadvantages to not owning one became just too strong to resist. I simply couldn't support clients or do my job nearly as effectively without one.

Even today, I find myself annoyed by friends/family who take offence to the lack of an immediate response to their text or call on my cell. Even with this in mind, I couldn't imagine not having access to the features I accepted only 6 years ago.

I honestly don't blame people for fearing, or viewing with dread, the comming technologies. A quick scan of the posts on this doc certainly makes it clear that this attitude is real and pervasive. In the end, though, technological evolution is ubiquitous and we will all have to adapt whether we want to or not.

  43. we must all get in touch with nature and keep technologies for specific purpouses not let robots control us....though rovoking doc

  44. @David Holz & anuragawasthi

To answer your question directly, Evolution. Taken as a whole, the Universe itself can be viewed as a glorious process that spawned The Stars/Galaxies, then Elements/Chemistry, then Complex Chemistry/Life... and now, Culture/Technology.

The ever-accellerating pace of Cultural and Technological Evolution is the greatest force shaping change on our planet. Despite what I read from many, it is impossible to argue that the evolution of Technology is anything less than a Net-Positive for Mankind. This holds true even when considering the "worst" inventions such as weapons of mass destruction.

I often hear people suggest that earlier cultures, such as the Native Americans, lived in some kind of wonderful harmony with the enviornment. This is really not true, as they lived in constant fear of the environment much like our ancient ancestors. Their lives were brutal and short-lived; averaging just under 30-Years before succumbing to the pressures which all natural organisms face in the relentless struggle for existance.

It is technology that allows Humanity to adapt and meet these selective pressures and, as a result, we have nearly trippled our individual life-spans. This is not a trend that is going away, technology is ubiquitous and it is the Natural "Next Step" in an Emergent Universe that trends/evolves towards higher and higher levels of complexity. Cultures that do not develop advanced technologies will simply pass into the oblivion of history, replaced by those that are better able to adapt and thus survive.

The problems of world-hunger, climate change, ect... will be solved by one thing and one thing only. Human Technology.... It is quite reasonable to argue that, in some of these cases, Humans are not intelligent enough to solve the problems. This will facillitate, through a very natural process of selection, Intelligent Machines. This is, in my opinion, very natural and very good. Any way you look at it, however, there is no stopping it.

  45. Glenn Beck just said " I CAN'T EAT AN IPAD"

  46. Yo darwin i got a question for ya . who was here first man or machine ? also man or nature? dont desecrate the life giving trees man. ill give you that his predictions were accurate but how can you mathematical compute infinity as in trillions of atoms and trillions of galaxies?

  47. Change is coming whether we like it or not.It may not come too soon(30-50yrs),but whenever it comes it will have a great impact on our society.
Amazing technologies are coming to open new horizons to our lives. Will new tech improve our quality of life by default? Of course not, for if it were for the technology alone, even present day tech would have established a heaven on earth.
Our political and socioeconomic structure is continuously becoming vastly inadequate to accommodate the new perceptions science and tech bring. We,mostly, are trapped in archaic dualistic ideas, which we treat with reverence they don't deserve, eg religion and atheism, soul and matter, employment and unemployment, rich and poor, smart and dumb, black and white, capitalism and communism, democracy and monarchy, ethical and unethical, money and value.
In addition our education lags behind new scientific developments.Even though new tech(see internet) resists this phenomenon we are still badly educated. We lack basic understanding of fundamental scientific principles and as a result we are carried away by false trains of thought and conclusions.
What new scientific developments imply is that basic needs for survival will no longer be a problem. They imply that basic resources for survival wont have the traditional limits, so they also imply that our whole financial system(be it corporeal or electronic money) is meaningless. Most of the employment and the jobs today are based on this principle of survival, which is why they won't have any meaning in the future. Are we going to abandon so easily this hardwired perception of survival(see improvement through difficulties and pain)? I don't think so.This is why big turmoil is ahead of us.
Last but not least is the problem of the so called third world. If developed countries would find it difficult to adapt to the new technological tsunami, it would be far more difficult for the developing countries to assimilate what would seem between magic and new religion. It would be for them like for the fish out of the water.Because they are more than the developed world used to live through difficulties eg the urge to survive. How would such an individual live in a world where every conceivable biological need could be satisfied? It would become addicted to indulge into these satisfactions and so would become sterile and counterproductive. We already see this in rich countries, smoking, drugs, obesity, depression and other psychiatric disorders as a result of a stubborn denial to abandon survivalism and accept creativeness and innovation.

  48. The only thing I don't like about this documentary are the comments I'm reading from all the Neo-Socialist "Zeitgeist" Types. This documentary is about technology; if that's what you want to comment on, lets hear it. Otherwise, save your "OMG people are Hungry/OMG civilization sux/OMG OMG" hippy tree-hugging comments for the appropriate forum.

Ray Kurzweil (featured in this doc) is a pure genius. Some people may find his ideas on the comming technological singularity to be frightning, others may find it fanciful or unrealistic... The fact of the matter is, his record for predicting future trends years in advance is incredibly accurate. This is because he builds mathmatical models that actually make predictions about the world. This is far more than I can say for the pseudo-scientific hippies included in the Zeitgeist doc.

    1. Technology and Society are interdependent, you cannot view tech in isolation and always remember that still 'Humans have not invented anything which they will not use a weapon'

oppenheimer.Alfred Nobel etc were all genius in their respective fields

  49. Did any of these people actually watch this doc. The comments are ridiculous, end of the world and NWO crazy rants. The "experts" quoted from 20-50 years for most of these advances. So really that maybe a bit zealous on their part, don't know about most of you, but chances are I will be about 80 years old when this sort of reality happens. So it isn't like they said this will all happen at once, tomorrow. And we know enough about technology that it is nearly imposable to predict. Most things we take for granted day to day would not have been dreamed up 20 years ago.

  50. Awesome Documentary!!!
I specially like the part that briefly mentions the idea of RFID chips embedded almost on any object and living thing out there. With this technology you could definitely say bye bye to privacy.
Hopefully these RFID chips as mentioned in the doc will not be the next big target for identity theft cases and hackers around the globe!!!! Obviously RFIDs will present a huge risk to privacy.

  51. this is the New world order , and who in there right mind wants to be a slave to a robot or avatar , this is a nightmare waiting to happin and has to be stoped ...

  52. @SaintNarcissus

I like that people are thinking about these things but i dissagree with some points. Firstly it is unlikely that a large enough slew of natural disasters, as you put it, would occur to destroy or cripple all technology or all knowledge of technology. It is definately possible but unlikely.
Secondly i would like to ask what is "physical"? what is "natural"? and what is "reality"?
I can understand that our society has change significantly over only the past decade, but in terms of technology i dissagree we have gone in the wrong direction. I do agree however that we have lost our connectedness and this is in part due to our dependence on certain technologies like social networking (the irony).

What i do definately agree on is that we are headed for collapse. This is not due to techonology though in my opinion. It is due to the sick society that we have continued to breed across the world. I won't go into this as its not particularly relevant to this documentary. But if you haven't watched them watch the Zeitgeist movies.
But i think some of us will be able to survive though if all really ,does go down the drain, by simply being informed in the simple techonologies or being able to work them out through basic knowledge that we all (should) have.

Lastly, a world free from monotonous, repetetive, worthless labor and pain is absolutely possible to achieve. But it takes an enormous amount of resposibility.

    1. Paul, thanks for your thoughts. In response, firstly I should clarify I was not necessarily forecasting or even imagining natural disasters that would wipe out "all technology" but thinking about scenarios that would disable or cripple technology in large enough sectors for significant enough time - eg. massive solar storms which are anticipated in late 2012, early 2013.

Secondly, when I refer to physical, natural, and reality, I'm talking about having a sense of biology in a greater context...where our food comes from, what a tree looks like, what a whole forest of them looks like, where wood for our houses comes from, etc. etc. Basically an innate sense of balance that is required when you live directly from the land and which can be (only temporarily as it will come back to bite us) forgotten and avoided by technology and importing/exporting etc.

I have watched the Zeitgeist movies and I like that they are asking bold questions and posing bold solutions but I feel there is a certain degree of naivate involved. I unfortunately agree a bit more with Derrick Jensen (see the doc on this site End: Civ) that to a great degree civilization is the problem, which brings me to your last point. I think the Zeigeist thing about worthless labor is wrongheaded to a degree. Monotonous labor which exists to sustain an overly consumptive and unsustainable society, should indeed be done away with. However, I would not consider tilling the soil, tending crops and animals, building a house, making a fire, catching fish, etc...in that category. My concern about the Venus Project solution is that it assumes these kinds of labor are somehow primitive. I would advocate a return to a more "primitive" way of life. I would not want to be living in the Venus project reality only to have a solar storm or 9.0 earthquake devastate the whole technological bedrock of society fail...and have everyone stand around asking each other what humans figured out millions of years ago...um..anyone know how to make a fire? I'm cold....

I'm not convinced that I'm right, nor am I convinced Mr. Fresco is wrong...but I am convinced that the way the world works now is very very wrong and that collapse is inevitable.

  53. psinet, you're wrong, you have made your choice clearly. I reject it. I promise you, in the end I'll be glad I did. Suppose we go to this extent and a slew of natural disasters cripple this techno-dependent society, several generations after losing any sense of physical, natural, reality and connectedness. Imagine the pandemonium, the horror. I choose a life that is directly connected to the real, the physical, the natural, etc. I don't mind using technology, obviously I'm doing so now, but I'm of the opinion that we are headed for collapse and that it may be wise to be comfortable with old-school human skills, and to be prepared to live a satisfying life with simple tools, rather than a wildly unsustainable selfish and consumptive lifestyle with glowing eyes fawning over a future in which I am freed from all labor, pain, responsibility, etc. You can have it psinet, and I certainly will not accept it.

    1. A thought: May be man and ape seperated at one time, eons ago, the way we are about to seperate from one an other. Some will chose to robotize and some will chose to remain humans. One day the robots may put us in a zoo and look at us as strange dumb animals. As i have tried to discuss with Epicurus in Ant: Nature's Secret Power, gorillas and monkeys are not as stupid as we think they are. Their smart way of living kept a sustainable earth alive until we the "big" brain came crashing with our so called smarty pants!
      az

    2. I completely agree. The "intelligence" that this doc praises and indeed idolizes, is only one kind of intelligence...the kind that is about gathering and synthesizing data. There is also spiritual intelligence or intuition, which is much deeper, harder to pin down, and I am sure laughable and irrelevant to folks like Psinet. So be it.

  54. I'm unnerved by the cheery and almost religious indoctrination-like tone of the doc. "Here it comes! Your wonderful future! It is coming and you can't do anything to stop it, but don't be afraid...try it you'll like it!" Not to mention that while I agree all these developments are possible in theory, they are out of step with our unraveling relationship with our planet and its resources. This future will only happen if there is a genocide of all the poor and undesirables, leaving adequate resources for such a spoiled-brat elite who simply must have everything and become super cyborg humans. I'm disgusted honestly. I don't want that future, and I disagree with the scientist who says my time is up. I will happily disappear onto a few acres with a garden, game to hunt, candles for light, hard work to be done, and the people I love nearby working with me. The technological elite can keep their advancement and I will pursue wisdom and peace of mind. That is what they are losing, and they will be the pitiable ones. God, what is happening to us? Shame on you Discovery Channel for making such vapid and shameless future-porn.

  55. The word DOMINATE is used way too often in this doc.
And the phrase "Blure the line between what is reel and what is not" is the strategy used on the puppets.
    az

  56. It's because such technologies are coming, that we need to review our political systems, social structure, finance and last, but not least, education. If, we adress this major problem, then all future technologies will be beneficial. But because it's quite certain that we won't, at least in the beginning, these innovations won't arrive without a general turmoil.

We tend to idealise our belief systems, our political and financial systems. We are badly educated to need Gods such as christianity, judaism, hinduism, satanism, or capitalism, communism and many other -isms.
We dream of a perfect world(as described above,) but we do not realise that we are hoplessely stuck to our ancestral instincts and worldviews, to bear such a perfect world.

I am not going to suggest that we need a new world order, because it's those that suggest this, that fear change the most. To the unprepared a lot of difficult questions will arise:
    * " If i have all the resources i need to survive, then how will i justify a future war?"
    * "If I do not go to war how will i feel alive and how will i prove my greatness? As things stand right now it feels all the other are as capable and smart as i am.I feel depressed, even some machines outsmart me, even though i can produce so much science in a year than 10 Einsteins in their whole life!"
    * "If every individual has all the energy it can ever need from his/her house or other devices, then how can a company charge for electricity or oil for that matter? Even though they cant charge a penny for energy, they, too, have all the energy they need, so it doesn't matter.Nevertheless, they feel depressed because they were the boss before and now they are as significant as the last "savage" in Africa!"
    * "If any form of production be it energy, material goods, information cannot generate money then what is the meaning of money?(or the meaning of life for some)." Money of course is not the meaning of life, it is only an archaic means to quantitate labour(not always successfuly) in a resource limited world.
    * Other naive questions would be:" If i can create a sentient being or the semblance of sentience, how am i any lesser than the god? And if i am not lesser maybe err i am the god? It reasons like me and seems to feel like me.Yet, I am quite certain I did not put a soul into it. This is not fair, how in the world can I give rights to a soul-les thingy? Errrr may be I do not have a soul as well after all?"

To avoid such dead ends one needs to be educated,to be educated,to be educated and to have courage,to have courage,to have courage, to face the changes that are coming.Otherwise we will be ruled by rulers even though no ruling is necessary, only a shrink for those who feel proud to rule and command.

  57. OMG so they want to build 'SKYNET'

    Terminator Movie quote:

The Terminator: The Skynet Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Skynet begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
    Sarah Connor: Skynet fights back.
The Terminator: Yes. It launches its missiles against the targets in Russia.
John Connor: Why attack Russia? Aren't they our friends now?
The Terminator: Because Skynet knows the Russian counter-attack will eliminate its enemies over here.

    1. Exactly why you shouldn't unplug a machine that has become aware enough to ask you not to turn it off :P

  58. Amazing but very scary !! Who wants to live in a world where your life is organised by robots and where it becomes your eternal reminder for every steps you make and every thought you have . Yes, mass manipulation for better production if this technology would get developped by the griddy minds that control already our planet ! But if well and fairly developped to help humanity's well being , it could be a huge step in human's evolution , we could probably plug into a programative matrix that could put everyone on the same scale in terms of level of intelligence and infinite creative posibilities .....then we would move to light speed ,I am curious to see the unfold of this !

  59. I love the Luddites getting upset.
    You have no choice.
    Accept it.

  60. Ok so let me get this straight. Your designing intellectual systems that control what I see, knows where I am and what I eat, studies my habits, controls my resources annnnnd looks cool? Exploiting technology to suppress freedoms and privacy should be illegal.

  61. Good doc....BUT there is one thing that can stop ALL of this technology in it's tracks: EMP! Nuclear or otherwise, all of this tech will come to a screeching halt.
Without natural survival and cognitive skills "cyborg" anything will not help.
There is shielding, of course, but on a day to day basis I don't think that humans with all the built in electronics, etc. will last very long.
BTW...if the computer controls your car, EMP = CRASH.
If the computer controls your house, EMP = no electricity, internet connection, communications, water(?).
    Have a nice future though.
    BR, Tom

    1. That makes no sense whatsoever. We meat machines happen to die of just about anything - virus's, gas, bullets, bombs etc etc - yet we manage.
Plus EMP is more legend than truth. If it were so easy then the US military would not be so unassailable.

  62. If there are that many "intelligent" brains around then everyone in our world should be healthy, happy, clothed, fed and housed by now and peacefully appreciating the natural gifts our planet has so what's up with that?

    1. In the course of evolution "intelligence" was fueled on being "greedy"

  63. As long as I can survive comfortably in this new computer dominated future, I'm game. Like the one guy said "If a machine can ask you not to turn it off, then you shouldn't". Its a diplomatic first step, otherwise its a war for survival in the making.

    1. If a machine could ask you not to turn it off, you should. The psyche behind the situation my friend.

    2. If a machine is intelligent enough to ask you to not turn it off, its got some idea of what to expect and probably has made some preparations to survive. That machine had better be isolated from wireless and hard line communications and utterly destroyed afterward.

  64. We will have to compete with machines in the future....as if we're not already competing now to make very few people very rich as we waste our lives competing.
Remember that this is a world where a lot of people go to bed hungry every day. How do you put together hunger and resource depletion with this machine filled resourceful future.

This and other documentaries like this is such a crappy propagandistic crap.

    1. I should have read your comment before I posted a very similar reflection. Glad I'm not alone in seeing this!

  65. It's always saying imagine this, imagine that...
It's pretty much a near certainty that reasoning can not be realistically put into a machine without organic material. There is nothing for for the 'reasoning soul' to attach to, only a human-made program and we haven't the intelligence, capability or time to recreate what evolution has created in specific micro-steps over billions of years.
We can simulate intelligence, that's it!

    1. A series of artificial neural networks can actually learn to be creative, why not emotion and reason ?

    2. We are all just bags of matter sorting data into coherent thought is that not what a computer dose?

    3. "Reasoning soul" - bollocks

  66. This is a decent introduction, but it seems more like a corporate sponsored marketing maneuver than anything actually interesting.

  67. it seems as if this propaganda video did not have the desired effect here. not warming up to computers controlling your life and the microchips knowing where you are every minute while it controls your emotions and desires?

maybe there is hope after all.

  68. what if cyporg thingy is going to happen isn`t better upgrades will be available only to the richest creating a worse social crisis ?
would the poor be considered human any more " considering 1st question " ?
what if we created a machine that have a well and can make it`s own decision and have a processor much stronger than our brain wouldn`t that be the most stupid thing done by a species ever .... terminate your own kind in purpose ?
we have advanced in technology and science greatly but we didn`t advance in field of wisdom by one inch ...........

  69. Technology substituted Ideology - crazy scientists that can see the future and believe in destiny. The world is really upside down!

  70. soon we can all stay home (unemployed of course) and let the machines do all the work! Anything that Takes Jobs is NO GOOD, no matter how cool it seems. Like self check out machines at the grocery store, how many people are "FREE of that Job" ?

  71. propaganda. capitalism must go before we have a future at all.

  72. Love the cars, especially the muscle cars.

I suppose they will by that time have figured out, and stop, all the deadly detrimental health effects of ""Electrosmog"" this will definitely all cause, or will we be a land of brain-dead zombies?

  73. The classic movie BladeRunner of 1982 predicted that by 2019 we would have organic androids indistinguishable from humans that would help us rule human colonies outside earth. Tall claim here we are in 2011 and only true android i have come across is a dumb phone and Roomba a dumber vaccuum cleaner.

    1. We still have 8 years of exponential growth in genetics, AI and cloning to put together to achieve Blade runners synths.

    2. That was a work of fiction, not a predictive documentary on the early 21st Century!!

    3. Darktruth,

Since this Doc mostly deals with ideas put forth by Ray Kurzweil, I'll list his accomplishments here and allow you to convince me why you know better in your reply.....

      =================
First place in the 1965 International Science Fair[4] for inventing the classical music synthesizing computer.
The 1978 Grace Murray Hopper Award from the Association for Computing Machinery. The award is given annually to one "outstanding young computer professional" and is accompanied by a $35,000 prize.[18] Kurzweil won it for his invention of the Kurzweil Reading Machine.[19]
The 1990 "Engineer of the Year" award from Design News.[20]
The 1994 Dickson Prize in Science. One is awarded every year by Carnegie Mellon University to individuals who have "notably advanced the field of science." Both a medal and a $50,000 prize are presented to winners.[21]
The 1998 "Inventor of the Year" award from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[22]
The 1999 National Medal of Technology.[23] This is the highest award the President of the United States can bestow upon individuals and groups for pioneering new technologies, and the President dispenses the award at his discretion.[24] Bill Clinton presented Kurzweil with the National Medal of Technology during a White House ceremony in recognition of Kurzweil's development of computer-based technologies to help the disabled.
The 2000 Telluride Tech Festival Award of Technology.[25] Two other individuals also received the same honor that year. The award is presented yearly to people who "exemplify the life, times and standard of contribution of Tesla, Westinghouse and Nunn."
The 2001 Lemelson-MIT Prize for a lifetime of developing technologies to help the disabled and to enrich the arts.[26] Only one is meted out each year to highly successful, mid-career inventors. A $500,000 award accompanies the prize.[27]
Kurzweil was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2002 for inventing the Kurzweil Reading Machine.[28] The organization "honors the women and men responsible for the great technological advances that make human, social and economic progress possible."[29] Fifteen other people were inducted into the Hall of Fame the same year.[30]
The Arthur C. Clarke Lifetime Achievement Award on April 20, 2009 for lifetime achievement as an inventor and futurist in computer-based technologies.[31]
Kurzweil has received seventeen honorary doctorates between 1982 and 2010.[citation needed]–
In 2011, Kurzweil was named a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council.[32]
      ===================================

Now, since you're so smart, I'm sure you'll have a good reason why I should favor your opinion over Ray's.

Note: Having an Internet connection and a baseless opinion does not qualify.

      Cheers

    4. ...because you wouldn't want to commit "fallacy of authority", would you?

  74. 'Intelligent Machines Will RUN YOUR LIFE, if you let them' = Trans-human agenda

We as human beings need to STOP THESE MONSTERS! This is definitely trans-human/N.W.O propaganda, don't fall for it! They were talking about RFID chips, living inside of computers, robots running our lives and even 'expanding the human evolution' with technology. Screw that I don't want to live in a technocratic world with only yes or no answers & no maybes. The answer to 1984 is 1776!

  75. Hmm. Lots of rather big claims. I get the feeling that there's a lot of debate behind some of the statements made in this documentary... It raises some thought-provoking ideas though.

  76. Meh. I don't any of the new things they saywill be here in the future. I still rather listen to vinyls and drive old 80's cars. I'm still living in the analog age.

  77. Really good look at some futuristic tech that is right around the corner if not already here. I enjoyed it. :)
