Machu Picchu: Lost City of the Inca
In 1911, Hiram Bingham, famed American explorer, stumbled across a remote Inca city atop a high peak in the Andes.
The site was called Machu Picchu – perhaps the most famous ruin in the world. What was its purpose? Was it, like Bingham believed, a military fortress?
Or did this glorious ruin have a secret purpose? From the mountains of Peru, Josh will follow in the footsteps of Hiram Bingham.
He builds a log bridge across a raging river, examines the stonework at the site, and reviews ancient manuscripts to discover the ‘true’ purpose of Machu Picchu.
The stones here demonstrate the vital element of Inca spirituality. It's calle sacred geography, a spirit connection not just between the rocks and mountain, but between the stone, these people, and the heavens above.
It is very much, a re-creation of patterns, for exploration, and pilaging of the New World for the greater wealth of their rulers. Take note.....what will happen when we find a new inhabited planet, in the future, I have no doubt that the greed and pilaging will continue, it has always been our way (sigh)

Very interesting. I really like this whole series. The host is an intelligent and imaginative host, unlike most hosts who simply narrate the facts. It's very interesting to see some of the obstacles Bingham would have faced, and to learn about Machu Picchu. There is only so much you can do in an hour, of course, and the Indiana Jones hat is a marketing tool I could live without. I just shrug and say, whatever. That doesn't change the fact that the host is intelligent, well-educated, and knowledgable and physically able as far as work and survival skills go. That is what makes it an interesting series. In fact, as far as I know, this was the seminal history channel series that kicked off the reality series' like Man v. Wild, etc.
This man is VERY annoying! Can't stand his voice or habit of spelling everything out as though the viewer is a mor*n...
IMO, the inca had nothing to do with the making of Machu Picchu,it was already there when they came along, i think its a lot older then conventional thought would have you belive, it imo was made before the end of the last ice age!
I've always wanted to visit Machu Picchu.
Hahahah what a stupid documetar movie ... after this Indiana Jones build the bridge ... and cross the mighty river I was forced to stop this movie :) ... tooo baaad
