Trump would turn Greenland into a 21st Century Nauru. I mean, it'd be green at least lol however briefly.
Whenever Alastair opens his mouth all I can think is…WMD!..🤔. And the thing about politicians lying and their lips moving. Of course TB was the actual politician in that bromantic imbroglio, who was the monkey and who the organ grinder? well who knows?, depends on how conspiratorial one is. Except somehow both these current two- yesterdays gasbags – are so unpersuasive.
Albow-knee-sea
Orangey could have taken Greenland before Liberation Day, but not now.
And don’t forget in Australia we have a compulsory voting system…which makes a huge difference balancing the extreme positions and eventually moderating the elections political outcomes
Please please please don't promote or endorse dogsled racing; those animals live miserable lives.
Albanese is an Italian surname. Although not the proper Italian pronunciation, aussies call him Alba -nee -zee
Looks like greenland needs some freedom
We did fight the germans in ww2. But we realized it was hopeless and would only cause more pain than it was worth so we surrendered quickly.
I find a bit appalling how you take fascist "dog whistles" like "Put [country placeholder] first" slogans at face value. Le Pen isn't anti-America, Pierre Poilievre isn't anti-Trump, they all follow the same anti-democratic KGB playbook, using the tools put to their disposition to depopulate their respective countries, all fashions of hybrid warfare they conveniently blame on "outside forces", immigrants, corrupted institutions they have to dismantle… silently pro-oligarch, pro-division, pro-chaos, anti-Ukraine… lots of misdirection passing under your radar.
Fictitious: [my translation] i.e. Julien Odoul who, four months after the start of his contract, sent Marine Le Pen a message: "Marine, could I possibly come to Strasbourg tomorrow to see actually how a (parliamentary) session is» at the Parliament « and finally meet Mylène Troszczynski to whom I am attached? », did he write in February 2015. "Yes of course", replied Marine Le Pen.

"Eskimo" is to Inuits and Yupik what the "N" word is to black skin people. Kalaallit, Iivit (Tunumiit) and Inughuit, in Greenland.
Looting and occupying allies is unprecedented, and we know that the United States is not capable of being allies with other countries. The United States spends money on leading the world into wars, it is unworthy and testifies that the United States has no interest in peace, but only in money. The United States has in recent weeks given up the right to speak and think freely, the right to be who you are, the right to respect each other, incited war, abandoned hungry people, been responsible for the death of Ukrainian soldiers, announced that they do not believe in vaccines, announced that green energy should be replaced by oil and gas to the detriment of the environment, and the United States has never before lied, cheated, and stolen as they do now, and it will cause tensions throughout the world, a world on the brink of peace until Trump came along and started wars.
Elbowkneesy having said that it is an Italian name so feel free to say it as you wish, we just call him elbow
Alistair Campbell. Hmmm
You should try and grab David Pocock on the Pod for a chat. Super interesting Australian politician.
It's Albanese as in Sneezy of the 7 dwarfs. And yes, that is a often made comparison
i don't think most Australians know the right way to pronounce Albanese. I'm not sure even he does …
We just call him "Albo" go for that 😀
In our media it's always pronounced al-bo-neez-ee
Yea, you're saying it completely wrong. Al – Bah – Knee – Zee, and it has a kinda syncopated, sing song rhythm – long short long long, emphasis on the 'Knee'. The way you're saying the 'Knee' and 'Zee' part is the problem, it's not Al – Ba – Nay – Zz. Albo is fine ofc but remove one letter and you have a slur, so watch out for that. I vote for the progressives but god I hope we get Labor instead of the Liberals (yes I know it's confusing that the Liberals are the conservative party). Pls Australia, don't vote along populist lines like the States. We have Medicare, pensions, Super, cheap education, a good economy, and it didn't just appear out of nowhere. <3
Another Aussie here. One of the great successes in our political system is compulsory voting. The vast majority of us swing very little from left to right of centre and the majority of voters keep us there.
Albo’s name is pronounced Alban”easy”. You got it terribly wrong with Dutton. The first letter is correct but it is pronounced dickhead.
Please stop using the promotional images of Trump and his cronies that he promotes; you aren't satirising you are pandering by pushing his self-glorying BS. If you wish to be non-partisan then post public images of him as nobody; no posturing, just the naked truth, refuse to indulge in the idolatry of either political wing.
Shhh guys, real countries are talking
Greenland is a pure vanity project for Trump…. so it's like 99% certain to happen.
“Al-bon-easy” is the pronunciation.
Brilliant show!
Denmark could keep using the land after handing out ownership, if they used it at all.
13:30 yes Alastair, and who do you think would turn against US? UK? Germany? France? None of these countries have any real leverage against the US militarily
You guys should have @Gary's economics on.
What about Iran??
Thank you for bringing up the context of French politics and corruption. The judgement is in that context . It is democracy and the rule of law working. It should be also noted that the parquet has already signalled next phase of the case will be in2026. This leaves plenty of time for Le Pen to run if acquitted. Juppe at that phase got a reduction. What about Fillon which the scandal killed his presidential race. No one brought that up? Please note that France has convicted two presidents for embezzlement and influence. The US has a convicted felon in office. We should demand the highest conduct in office because they are being entrusted with Power. We all known power is corruptive. The same goes for certain professions such as law, medicine, accountants
"they seem to have died out sometime in the early christian era."

A minor correction: as regards the seizure by the United States of the Hawaiian Islands, it is certainly true that a small group of businessmen, aided by the US counsel and a small company of Marines, forced the Queen to abdicate in January 1893. What is not broadly remembered is that the businessmen then sent a delegation to Washington D.C., requesting that the U.S. annex the islands. Unfortunately for their timing, while a Republican president was in power at the time of the overthrow, the presidential election had occurred in November 1892, and the winner of that election was Grover Cleveland, a Democrat. When the Hawaiian delegation arrived in Washington, Cleveland had been inaugurated. Cleveland flatly refused to approve annexation, and in fact appointed a commission to go to Hawaii and investigate the insurrection. Having been rebuffed by the U.S., the insurrectionists set up the Hawaiian "Republic." The commission's report slammed the insurrectionists and recommended that the U.S. lend its offices to enable a restoration of the Hawaiian monarchy. It wasn't until 1898, and under Republican William McKinley, that the Hawaiian islands were annexed to the U.S. as a territory.
(Please note that these facts are easily verifiable; probably the best starting point would be to check the Wikipedia summary under the title "Blount Report.")
Trump is a bump in the road, unsettling but a rear view mirror glance, road kill.
Hows turquoise mountain going rory? Without the usaid money,, still profitable?
I must be missing something here. Does no one think that Trump is acting exactly the same way as Putin. This is going back to the 1930s playbook. Europe and Asia need to wake up and fight back.
So interesting and informative.
Beautiful descriptions of Greenland in the books that Rory has read; the enthusiasm is infectious. I’m surprised there haven’t been any documentaries about the country before now, unless I’ve missed them.
Is Rory saying that NATO’s article 5 is not worth the paper it’s written on? Does that mean that Greenland and Canada are defenceless against Trump?
so spot on by both of them. excellent analysis, love rory's story telling abilities and recap of books he's read
The acquisition of Greenland is nothing to do with national or international security. It’s about the minerals. It’s as simple as that, and that includes Canada too. He’s a business man. Acquisition is all he’s interested in. What can he get out of it, and how much money will he get.
Mr. Orban: Je suis Marine. YES you are! Exactly the same…
