I'm all for having cool secret surveillance bases like Pine Gap to protect us – but only if they actually work 😂 I mean we can't even detect an entire fleet of enemy ships firing missiles? Embarrassing.

@markrichter8044 April 11, 2025 - 6:07 pm

Because they can, who would fear a country that cannot define a male or female?

All Airlines affected by the Chinese Warship cruising Australia should SEW the Australian & Chinese Governments from re-detecting their flights.

@Sadula4 April 11, 2025 - 6:07 pm

Xi the Bear wants to show that he's a powerful dictator, and to do so, he swims from China to Australia and back again… That's what the warships are for. To scare the jellyfish so that the big bear, Xi Ding Dong, can put on his cheap PR show in peace.

@INTAestheticologyInstitute April 11, 2025 - 6:07 pm

The end of western civilization

@davidcogburn6725 April 11, 2025 - 6:07 pm

As an American, I agree that China has the right to Freedom of Navigation in any international waters, even off the US coast. What this incident shows is a lack of surveillance capabilities to monitor such passages successfully. The purpose of the Australian/US surveillance station is not to track vessels, it to collect and process signals intelligence from geosynchronous satellites, and early warning of missile launches. If everyone was operational, the navy only has 6 diesel submarines, 12 patrol boats and 7 frigates to cover a coastline of almost 60,000 km. Realistically, not everything is operational at one time. As for the comment about the United States considering allies as freeloaders, let's put the line straight. President Trump was referring to NATO allies that were not pulling their weight as the allies had committed themselves to do. For example, Canada has only been paying 1.3% of their GDP and stated they would never pay the full 2% as agreed to over 10 years ago. The Australian government has committed and paid over 2% GDP towards defense and meets its commitments. If Australia can be counted on as a trustworthy ally, so can the United States, especially since we want to commit more resources to the Indo-Pacific region.

@ozrob76 April 11, 2025 - 6:07 pm

The "unprecedented surveillance" the PM spoke of was for Australian citizens talking on social media- not Chinese warships off the coast. He got it mixed up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Every navy knows to stay away from coastlines so you are out of reach of land based AS weapons. China just has not caught on yet.

@scottmctaggart8171 April 11, 2025 - 6:07 pm

Stop blaming Trump. Trump and the U.S. has been warning about China for years. The U.S has bases in the Areas around the South China sea. In Japan. Another Island South of India and engaging Midway Island. For this guy to say the U.S. has not been paying attention to the South East and Australia is a blatant Lie.

@danielskomp9072 April 11, 2025 - 6:07 pm

Why are US warships in the South CHINA Sea?

@chandradeodemunger8820 April 11, 2025 - 6:07 pm
