We have the cleanest coal plant in the country, but DTE is planning to shut it down, build a gas plant, and inject CO2 under our county, while continuing to destroy thousands of acres of agricultural land with solar panels, which cannot be recycled, are covered with snow in the winter, and can be destroyed by hail. Our state-of-the-art coal plant (coal powder injection) was upgraded (cost $2B, passed to customer bills). Our governor has maneuvered around our legislature so that our Act about discounting taxes on land being preserved for agriculture now includes solar fields. The DNR was going to cut down 420 acres of trees on state land to allow installation of solar panels.

Mercury is emitted in the burning of all fossil fuels, with coal being the highest in mercury, much higher than all of the rest.

Coal burning in power plants in Texas have caused the fish in almost all of our lakes and rivers to be so contaminated with mercury that the health advisories for eating the fish are to limit healthy adult consumption to a few ounces per month and that pregnant women, children, and the elderly should not eat it. It never goes away. It compounds.

It all goes down to the oceans as well, and so ocean fish are contaminated too.

Acid rain is another problem from the burning of coal. Respiratory illnesses are another.

Wind and solar are big here in Texas, and a lot of energy is produced by both, with Texas being one of the largest producers of wind and solar energy in the country — but coal and other fossil fuels are still producing a great deal of pollution here. We had a number of coal plants shut down to help, and help mitigate the continual compounding of the harmful pollutants. I guess Trump is reversing all that now.

They have developed some ways to help make coal cleaner, if producers will even be made to use them and not just buy their way out of it with minimal fees — but coal is not "clean" even if they are made to use them.

Is he changing all the gas fired power plants back to coal? The cost of workers comp is more than a gas pipeline.

@perjeffee April 16, 2025 - 5:57 pm

@AB-un4io April 16, 2025 - 5:57 pm

Good! I’m embarrassed by the scamming going on through ‘environmental protection agencies’ that have been corrupted by certain ‘officials’ cloaking their ‘skimming off the top’ actions behind their so called ‘concern’ for the environment. I thought there were supposed to be dangerously high rises in our oceans…and, yet, people like Barack Obama and his WIFE? Keep buying expensive, waterfront property.
That’s weird!
It’s lies. Or it’s hypocrisy of the highest order.
We use coal, etc. NOW to provide energy for the ELECTRICITY for electric cars, etc. DUH! At least the coal will be OUR COAL. And there’s no reason the USA cannot use cleaner coal that UNITED STATES citizens pull from the earth while providing for their families through hard work instead of manipulation as the former administration has done by stealing, scamming and fraudulent, SNEAKY snake oil tactics. Thieves! There’s no honor among thieves. Looking at you, folks on the ‘Left.’ 👀
I used to vote democrat…for 35 years but never again. Never. Ever. Again. 👋🏼
