You clearly know nothing about language

@Eff_It April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

I don't care. As long as we have to communicate using words, I will correct others from time to time and be corrected. White people are the most sensitive to being corrected, and they came up with that horrible term Grammar Nazi. It's a low-grade form of anti-intellectualism to refer someone who makes a correction to police and fascists. Just condider it fact checking and move on. If you cited the wrong title of a book, and someone told you, would they be the Title MAGA?

I like words, too. Why should we who like words be the only ones to suffer? Lol. You shall experience the wrath of my corrections!

If someone tries to racialize it, that's another matter. I think you diluted the importance of that by discussing maenness and personality styles. Yuy were attacked for usung AAVE, that wasn't about making a correction. That was trying to undermine all of your work analyzing politics and culture on Youtube as a black person.

I loveeeeeeeee hearing about the precise grammatical features of English speakers other than my own it makes the language nerd in me so happy. See, I didn’t learn about mood aspect and modality for nothing goddamnit!!! I know what the perfective aspect is!! Love this video and hate the prescriptivist grammar nazis who are actually just being racist bigots, as they always have been

@davidwilliams7552 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Trying to justify your own ignorance is hilarious.

@fluoriteByte April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

my brain parses language like a bad python interpreter but idk honestly how people can't understand AAVE 😭😭

@forest_green April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Armchair grammarians love to exclude people and avoid the point of what people are saying in order to invalidate and exclude them. They should be shamed into silence.

Standard American English is beautiful

I will nolonger support this local Journalist “who continued to ignore my post & go on in recognition of others. He doesn’t represent US/the people especially victims whose rights are violated. It’s a clear reason TYT let him go as he continue to report us dry news. Under his informed journalism “We ain’t gone be alright!” Because “He not like US!”

@Antifag1977 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

The concept of grammar is pretentious at it's core. Languages are alive. Almost like species, they grow and evolve over time and vary greatly across regions.

Being from Scotland, I'm trying to work out what a Wee Gon Bee is!

@RochelleLang April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

I must admit I felt some kinda way when Merriam-Webster told us the dictionary records words, it doesn’t dictate how to use them. So I keep my judgmental disapproval to myself; no good can come of it.

@reggiestafford4549 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

The term 'proper English' is the biggest oxymoron ever written or spoken. Language has always been, and continues to be, fluid. It is the very nature of language itself. Every so called 'English speaking country' speaks the language differently. 😂

@Depl0rable10 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

You said something along the lines of "speach only needs to be clear enough that a decent portion of the population can understand it" which I would narrow even further.

Speach only needs to be clear enough that the specific people you intend the message for can understandable it. There are in jokes and group specific phrases that people use CONSTANTLY and people change their grammer and verbage slightly with every different person they speak to. You dont say rizz in front of your mother the same way you dont use that one random mispronounced word from when you were 6 in front of your coworkers.

My favorite line has always been (in informal communications) "if you are able to correct me quickly then you obviously understand what I was communicating. Youve just wasted both of our time"

@Intelligence_Failure April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

the only intolerable english error is have->of. in my opinion it should carry a two-strikes-based jail sentence unless you get yourself certified as intellectually disabled.

@christinavuyk2026 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

You want to look like a complete ignoramus, then keep talking the way you are. Just because you don’t care how stupid you make yourself sound doesn’t mean you have the right to take the rest of us who are making the effort down with you. Entitled thickos 🤦‍♀️😐

@constanza1648 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

I am a copyeditor in Spanish (my native language) and I know my English is far from being acceptable. But all I knonw is that "grammar n*zis" are only consider as that for people who are concious about making mistakes in language. People always correct other people, maybe those who hate "grammar n*zis" are also correcting others in themes they like: the names of Marvel's characters and even the spelling of their names.

@TimpossibleOne April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

5:09 if the "opinion theory" states that if you have a negative opinion about something that you can "keep it to yourself" shouldn't that also hold true if you have a positive review of the very same things? Why does your positive opinion of heath ledger's joker have a right to be voiced but my negative review doesn't?

@theinvisiblewoman5709 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

My online lessons from Sunn M’cheaux a foundational black American linguist at Harvard…. That’s how I respond to grammar Nazis

@stewpacalypse7104 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

I'm watching this while washing dishes, and when the silent K joke made me laugh so hard, my wife came downstairs and axed me what I be watching that's so funny.

@olddognewtricks5879 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Three silent K's in republican 🤣 that was gold.

@thehellyousay April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

ps: does your architect still speak japanese?

@leperpens April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Interesting tidbit on Henry Alford! Love stuff like that. Similarly, the "7 Deadly Sins" so many people erroneously think come from the bible was really just some weird monk in the year of like 5 (ok, 4th Century, but still) who felt he had a masterbation problem.

@cookingwithsilence April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Same with pronunciation. Most times both sides are not equally guilty except with pronunciation. It was all invented by supremacists, you don't get a leg up by criticizing the way somebody says Kamala til you've been to Philly, Akron, Birmingham, Denver, Cali, New York, etc. "Oh look, these people are ignorant, you know how I know? I used tools built by white supremacists".

@fakename1656 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

I used to be a grammer gestapo until i got punched for it in 3rd grade. I learned to keep it to myself after that. I still sometimes correct using the wrong word, or misunderstanding what a word means. That is mainly with my nieces and nephews though and they know i am always trying to teach them stuff. Its why they come to me to understand concepts they have issues with. I do hate language devolving to emojis and memes, but i understand thats just how people speak now. I dont have to use them myself, but i keep it to myself 99% of the time

@Blech-h9z April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

I didn't understand all of Kendrick's halftime performance, but I knew it was dope and I loved it.

@Blech-h9z April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

In Laura Ingalls Wilder "Farmer Boy" , the white farmer parents in New York call "Be you awake, Almanzo". "He's no better than I be." New York circa 1850.

@Blech-h9z April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Yup, my best friend's Mom was from Alabama. We done messed up a lot.

@themenna007 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

I happen to enjoy the way you speak, and have zero problem understanding. And I'm Scottish! If people are picking over how you're saying things and not what you're saying, they got no argument. It's like giving a good argument and the answer is – yeah? Well… you're fat and you smell funny 😂

@themenna007 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Have you seen all the multi hoohah going on over at tyt?😂 Fran told cenk the TRUTH!

@Vagran April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

You should have teamed with Sun Mcheaux for this one. That would have been fantastic.

@sethpeck7179 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Lol @ the pause before "University of Michigan"

@alexwixom4599 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

I love these conversations about AAVE. There's so many intersecting ideas. Language is alive! Trying to pin it down will only kill expression. ❤ hope you can do more videos like this.

@mikeferguson4816 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

You done a good job. 👍👊

@justhearmeout April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

What are your thoughts on people who do public speaking or announcements? Is it pronunciation not important?

@m.jackson6802 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Never have i been more tempted to push for a youtuber collab LOL. Would've loved to see you and Prof. Sunn M'cheaux do a takedown on this attitude from that commenter!

@lynnrunningdeerB4 April 2, 2025 - 5:55 pm

Why did her Ohio accent sound like an old British accent🤔?
