Dr. Larry Nassar was the United States women’s Olympic gymnastics team doctor for many years. The girls who were his patients trusted him completely, as did their parents. They did not question him when he performed alleged medical tests required of Olympic athletes. It wasn’t until one of the girls stepped forward about the nature of these tests that the whistle was blown.

Gymnast after gymnast admitted to being sexually abused by Dr. Nassar until he was facing a courtroom full of his accusers. He was convicted of heinous crimes regarding the sexual abuse of the U.S. gymnasts. Not only did he face a life sentence in prison but the ire of the survivors and their parents.

The film focuses on the role of various baseball stars, such as Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez. Screwball also showcases the role of then-commissioner Bud Selig, who turned a blind eye in the early years of the steroid era, as superstars such as Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Jose Canseco shattered home run records. Ultimately, the film revisits a dark stain in the history of baseball while also maintaining a light tone throughout the film.

Where Dreams Go To Die is about a journey toward the achievement of a single goal. Robbins’ journey is explored through the lens of the mental and physical toll enacted by the pursuit of a dream. Many in Robbins’ position often discover that the aftermath of accomplishing such a lofty goal comes with its own unique torments. This is a story of sacrificing the entirety of one’s life to achieve a single purpose.

Five hours long, broken into three segments, the film features a litany of legendary pro ballers, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird. There are interviews with coaches Pat Riley, K.C. Jones, and Paul Westhead.

Narrating the film are actors Ice Cube and Donnie Wahlberg. Both grew up in either Boston or Los Angeles, and each grew up loving their home teams. Taking this into account, the makers of Celtics/Lakers: Best of Enemies use the performers’ partisan slants, offering a more balanced perspective for fans of the teams. The narrators are rotated, each covering their favourite team.
