Period: End of Sentence
Period: End of Sentence shines a stark light on the culture and taboo around menstruation in India. The film observes a group of local women in Hapur, norther India as they disrupt the tacit disregard of the female body within their community. Making sanitary pads that are both affordable and biodegradable, they seek to educate young women and make mensuration safer. In doing so, they in effect, contribute and spark a sexual revolution in their region.
The young women of the region suffered silently for generations prior without access to feminine hygiene products or an appropriate outlet to voice their concerns. In many cases, this led to them missing school and various aspects of their life. When the biodegradable and affordable sanitary pads arrived in their village, a sense of empowerment washed through the female community.
