One claim made by the documentary is that clean energy, such as wind and solar, does not produce sufficient energy to sustain us without aid from fossil fuels. Another claim examined is that some leaders and organisations in the environmental movement support biomass energy, which is not sustainable, renewable, or carbon neutral.

The documentary features both street and formal interviews, archive footage of business and environmental leaders, as well as footage of biomass facilities and the construction of wind turbines and wind farms.

The film’s purpose is to encourage discussions about humanity’s impact on the environment besides climate change. These issues include overpopulation, mass species extinction caused by humans, and whether or not green energy can fix these problems.

The Real Chernobyl https://watchdocumentaries.com/the-real-chernobyl/ https://watchdocumentaries.com/the-real-chernobyl/#comments Sun, 16 Jun 2019 23:00:00 +0000 https://watchdocumentaries.com/the-real-chernobyl/ The Real Chernobyl seeks to expose the story of what happened during Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Pripyat, Ukraine on 28 April, 1986 from the perspective of those who lived through it. Once a thriving Soviet city with great housing and facilities for employees of the nuclear plant, Pripyat was forever changed on that fateful day when a malfunctioning reactor caused a huge steam explosion, resulting in the worst nuclear accident in history.

Sky News travels to Ukraine to get a first-hand account of the events. Amongst those interviewed are Oleksiy Breus, a control operator at the nuclear plant, and Igor Pismensky, a helicopter pilot who at the time delivered decontamination materials. These first-hand accounts offer a harrowing perspective of the unfortunate events of that day.

The documentary brings the entire Chernobyl story back to life, providing an eye-opening glimpse into the pain experienced by those impacted by the tragedy. The information given is engaging, intriguing and emotional for all who remember and want to remember this event.

Dominion https://watchdocumentaries.com/dominion/ https://watchdocumentaries.com/dominion/#respond Wed, 28 Mar 2018 23:00:00 +0000 https://watchdocumentaries.com/?p=3184 Dominion shows how animals are used and abused in the modern world and questions the morality of exploiting animals and the validity of humanity’s domination of animals. The film uses the highest-quality and most-recent footage from hidden and handheld cameras from locations in Australia. Furthermore, it employs the use of drone footage to show the scope of animal agriculture across the environmental landscape.

The six aspects of animal agriculture examined are fur and farm animals, wild and pet animals, and animals used for entertainment and experimentation. The documentary features vegan celebrity narrators Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Sia, and Sadie Sink, with music from Kat Von D. The animals featured in the film include common ones such as cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, horses, and fish, as well as less-common ones like minks, dolphins, seals, camels, and various exotic animals.

Land of Hope and Glory https://watchdocumentaries.com/land-of-hope-and-glory/ https://watchdocumentaries.com/land-of-hope-and-glory/#respond Sun, 30 Jul 2017 23:00:00 +0000 https://watchdocumentaries.com/land-of-hope-and-glory/ Land of Hope and Glory shines a light on UK animal farming with investigative video journalism and undercover footage. Produced by the founders of animal rights organisation Surge, approximately one hundred facilities are featured in the film, providing an expansive overview of conditions and treatment of animals.

The documentary seeks to demonstrate to the British public that even in a contemporary world of greater sensitivity and modern technology, where one would expect high standards of animal welfare, cruelty and neglect are still commonplace. In the aftermath of the ground-breaking documentary Earthlings, far too many Britons essentially adopted the idea that the types of mistreatment depicted in that film “doesn’t happen in our country”. Land of Hope and Glory intends to set the record straight.

Chasing Coral https://watchdocumentaries.com/chasing-coral/ https://watchdocumentaries.com/chasing-coral/#respond Sat, 21 Jan 2017 00:00:00 +0000 https://watchdocumentaries.com/?p=3473 Chasing Coral documents the alarmingly fast-paced disappearance of one of the world’s seven natural wonders: the ocean’s elegantly constructed coral reefs.

With a team of expert nature photographers and camera operators, director Jeff Orlowski captures the inspiring beauty and biodiversity found within the coral reefs. In sometimes scary moments, the enormous footprint of man muddies the elegant grace of the coral. Whether plastic entanglements, missing patches, or rotting fragments, the film provides an unfiltered look at the anthropomorphic impact on these coral reefs.

Using marine biologists and other scientific experts, the terrifying quickness with which the coral reefs are disappearing is discussed in full detail. In between breath-taking colonies of these underwater living creatures, the film begs the question of why and wonders how it can be stopped.

A Plastic Ocean https://watchdocumentaries.com/a-plastic-ocean/ https://watchdocumentaries.com/a-plastic-ocean/#respond Wed, 21 Sep 2016 23:00:00 +0000 https://watchdocumentaries.com/?p=4738 A Plastic Ocean was filmed over four years in 20 different locations around the world to investigate and report on the state of the oceans. Journalist Craig Leeson teamed up with diver and environmental activist Tanya Streeter to form an international team of scientists and researchers in order to complete the project.

The focus of the documentary is how plastic is affecting marine life and the environment. Plastic is an ever-growing threat to the natural world, given how cheap and easy it is to produce. Never before has it been used so extensively and right across the globe. Since plastic does not decompose naturally it stays in the environment, too often ending up in waterways and the ocean.

There are many beautiful shots in A Plastic Ocean of marine life and birds in seemingly gorgeous surroundings. This makes for a stark contrast to the images it shows of piles of plastic strewn across various shores and waterways in the world.

The documentary finds a way to deliver facts in a meaningful way that makes people weigh up the convenience and low-cost benefits of plastic versus the destruction it is causing to nature and the environment.

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret https://watchdocumentaries.com/cowspiracy-the-sustainability-secret/ https://watchdocumentaries.com/cowspiracy-the-sustainability-secret/#comments Tue, 24 Jun 2014 23:00:00 +0000 https://watchdocumentaries.com/cowspiracy-the-sustainability-secret/ Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret tackles the tough topic of environmental conservation through a new angle. Instead of focusing on things like deforestation or a lack of recycling, filmmaker Kip Andersen argues that animal agricultural practices are the primary cause of environmental issues.

The documentary follows Andersen’s journey as he attempts to uncover the truth behind the environmentally problematic behaviour of the animal ranching industry. Along the way he faces lies, hostility, and even outright threats. These obstacles only make him more determined to discover the true cost of raising animals for food.

Cowspiracy is able to make a compelling case that a great deal of modern environmental damage comes from the unsustainable practices of those supplying people with their meat, dairy, and eggs. It offers some hope in this time of global warming by suggesting that the burgeoning population of Earth can be fed in a more sustainable, plant-based manner.

Watermark https://watchdocumentaries.com/watermark/ https://watchdocumentaries.com/watermark/#respond Thu, 05 Sep 2013 23:00:00 +0000 https://watchdocumentaries.com/?p=5635 Watermark by Jennifer Baichwal and Edward Burtynsky delves into the importance of water and how it has shaped humanity. The film reflects on twenty unique stories from ten different countries. All of the anecdotes explain how essential water is to their livelihood.

Water is a crucial part of all cultures. Mankind has had just as much impact on water as water has had on mankind. The integral theme of climate change and how we must rethink the way we use and manipulate water provides a background connection for the individual stories.

Among the countries featured in the documentary are China and the United States – two nations that harvest the power of water through dams. Watermark provides an in depth look at the reliance of the human race on water for food, power, transportation, religious significance, and more.
