Edmund Kemper: Co-ed Butcher

Nearly seven feet tall, and highly intelligent, Edmund Kemper aka the Co-ed Butcher brutally murdered and dismembered ten people between 1964 and 1973. His crimes often included rape, cannibalism, and necrophilia.

In 1964, at only 15 years old, Ed killed his paternal grandparents. After shooting them, he called his mother who advised Ed to turn himself in. He told police he had killed his grandfather so that his grandfather would not know that his wife was dead and would not be angry with Ed.

Diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic, Ed was sentenced to Atascadero State Hospital for mentally ill convicts. He was released into his mother’s care after he turned 21. He was deemed rehabilitated by psychiatrists and his juvenile record was expunged in November of 1972.

Between May of 1972 and April 1973, Ed murdered eight more people, six students, his mother and his mother’s best friend.
