Thank you for this discussion!

In his overall demeanor, Jeffrey Goldberg reminds me of Bob Woodward ❤❤❤❤

Brilliant talk. Kinda depressing it only has 96k views – this needs to be seen by millions. Genuine and intelligent discourse about a serious shift in politics – and freedoms.

@dotmurphy7279 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

What's going to come of the ignoring the rule of law? Look back in history. The rule of Stephen of England and the rule of John of England.

@verodevarad April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

A question to Anne Appelbaum: are we so scared to imagine changes that we talk about 3 y and 10 months of Trump’s presidency? I don’t think he will last ONLY that long- he will do everything in his power to stay much longer.

@johnkelley1426 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Anne & Adam are spot on – the democrats and judiciary failed the open-minded breadth of imagination necessary to deal with MAGA, trump, and autocrats. Democrats allowed a slow-motion slide to autocracy for the past 45+ years. There were many markers: corporations are people, money is speech, Citizens United, consistent / systemic steamrolling senate democrats like punching bags.

@judithking7424 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

The voters who put 45**/47convictedfelon back in power are the real problem.

@Anabee3 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

If i recall correctly, getting rid of the judicial & legislative systems of Germany was the final hurdle Hitler had to overcome in order to have total control.

Let me respond to you this way. I’m a high school drop out who went from the shop floor to the board room, (which I left in disgust some forty years ago). Along the way I earned advanced graduate degrees and am a writer.

With that said, your authenticity and the clarity of expression are certainly the equal of mine.

Speaking authentically from the heart can be a rambling cathartic affair.

You, sir are articulate and express yourself powerfully. Make no apologies. I have known graduate students who lack your skill.

Hate to break the news pal: you’re a writer. Quit selling yourself short. And damn it, write, make your voice heard. Try a Substack. You may be very pleasantly surprised Your voice needs to be heard and will draw an audience.

Just this old man’s opinion.

@ 15 minutes… Adam clarifies the constitutional crisis USA is NOW having and most Americans CHOOSE not to realize and DO something about it. Like SPEAK UP AND MAKE NOISE AGAINST TRUMPISM. Get smart USA. ** Hear Anne @ 18:50 min. Remember Trump prepared during his first term, then had 4 years to "perfect" Putin's strategy for his NOW term . Planned with training AS an asset; $$ from another asset. AND PROJECT 2025 "handbook".

@juneblender5735 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Amazing conversation, but why didn't anyone ask McKay Coppins what's happened to Mitt Romney now? He's not running, so primary challenges aren't a threat. The man has enough money to withstand all the legal stuff the administration might throw at him. And, supposedly, his values are completely opposed to Trump. But Romney has voted for all of the Trump nominees, including Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard, RFK Jr., and Kash Patel. He voted for the destructive continuing budget resolution. Why isn't Mitt standing up for the last shreds of the old GOP?

@Normanx964 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Atlantic = one sided liberal dish rag.

@alexanderthompson4481 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

And let’s remember that Mitt Romney’s contempt for working people, women and queers was deep and unbounded. He pursued a lifelong project of depriving people of their livelihoods in the name of efficiency. Romney’s stance on Trump is either disingenuous or stupid.

@ingridgrattidge5887 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

When will we know? It’s happening right now. The U.S. democracy is at stake now!!!

@ingridgrattidge5887 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Again, is it simply acquiescence and need to be voted in again or is there compromot on these republican politicians?

@alexanderthompson4481 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Wow. Call me naive, butI’m still shocked when an intelligent, cultivated journalist suggests that the Trump administration is a break with Reagan and George W Bush instead of the continuation of a 40-year conservative project. A truly mad level of self-deception to think this is new.

@Elsa-m8o April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Why are we paying the republicans???

@dennisjackson6153 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

What is the significance of the Signal chat being blatant violation of the federal records act? That is the basis fora lawsuit against the participants of that chat.

@greggilquist1208 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Bright comments from Elaina at the 23:00 mark. Correct, you cannot undo some things. Our government is nearly exactly like architecture (the bricks, wood and stone kind), and it has an architecture in the broad sense. People need to conceptualize our government as something completely physical and tangible (that has taken a long time to develop). In our modern times, to many, the need for a stable government is equal to that of food or shelter. Like a 200 year old building, you destroy it in less than a day, you are not going to rebuild it the same. It is also worth noting, that our architecture and government in the U.S. are both steeped in our colonial, racist and white supremacist history, and are therefore very flawed, but in my view, can be maintained at any given time, if there is a spirit of correcting our course, versus being plain and ignorant. That goes for a building built by slaves, or a constitution built on slavery. Also a reminder, Trump literally has demolishing of historic buildings in his resume, and running establishments into the ground in a thriving business sense, or building place sense. So he is no stranger in wanton destruction of commonly cherished institutions held precious by a majority of other people.

Also, Anne always has great succinct insight. Her direct tone makes me demand an answer to: "when will the hammer fall to what we still perceive as a free and wild press?" As gradual as some things may take to happen, there will be a moment where it is clear, and too late.

@georgeoriold8798 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

What are you going to do about Trump?

@evsm3923 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Slovakia was here first haha it seems like Trumps boys are doing copy paste of what is happening in Slovakia last year +

@elizabethco6116 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Disappointing platitudes.

@puddles5501 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

"3 years and ten months hur hur hur" no dude, there will not be a 2028 election what are you even talking about.

@spspspspspspspspspsp April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

What an incredibly intefesting interview

@samuelbate9581 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Jeffrey, I would like to thank you for being one of the most consequential journalists, with the integrity to match, in the country today. We appreciate you and your views.

@fu2419 April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Typically I like Serwer's take but it's not Musk it's Trump & congress has the power to deal with him if they just use it then that's the end of Musk & his BS. Fact is a good number of those in congress are all in on the stupidity Musk is doing on Trump's behalf & think that blaming him will save them from their constituents but they're wrong.

@Shelly-gm4kz April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

To withstand this, we must demand ethics within our leadership and we must never expect a perfect government. there is no such thing as a perfect government. We are the greatest nation, but we must demand respect and decency at the top.

@malakiblunt April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

the level of delusion of these muppets counting down to the next 'election' how long do they think its going to be before its journalist being draged into black vans and sent to El salvadorian prisons ? Maga is not going to continue to allow you people to sit around discusing them for much longer .

@shaytheo April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Observation- all white people talking. White people have no muscle for fighting fascism. Black people have been fighting fascism in the US for over 400 years.

Speak from your social location please.

@IndependantThinking April 1, 2025 - 2:28 pm

Lemmings. Let’s not forget: Jeffrey Goldberg was one of the main journalists who helped sell the Iraq War to the American public. His reporting in the early 2000s pushed the false narrative that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and ties to al-Qaeda.
Goldberg has consistently worked to destabilize countries through media manipulation, he’s operated hand-in-glove with the CIA, the Pentagon, and other intelligence agencies — a useful mouthpiece who masquerades as a journalist.
This was likely a staged event, part of a larger psychological operation — either to frame a narrative, test public response, or undermine trust in Signal itself. It raises the possibility that Signal has been quietly compromised by the NSA or another intelligence agency, and this “leak” was the theatrical rollout.
This isn’t just lazy journalism — this is information warfare. And Jeffrey Goldberg is a seasoned soldier in that war.
Watch who they protect. Watch who they leak to. And never forget who helped march us into Iraq.

3 years and 10 month? Really? Try 7 years and 10 month. 11 years and 10 month. 15 years years month and 10 month. You are in a dictatorship now, remember. You will NOT have free and fair elections before decades, you know that don’t you? DO… YOU… KNOW… THAT… YOU… WILL… NOT… HAVE… FREE… AND… FAIR… ELECTIONS before decades? No? My God, we are so fucked.
