Can Russia rebuild its military, particularly its armored units lost in Ukraine, in 3-4 years?
Simply excellent analysis
"They are rehearsing.' We'd better rehearse ourselves from today. Are our leaderships doing so?
Converting factories to build weapons for defense seems a bit expensive. What if Russia simply uses NBC warfare ? chemicals and germs it already has ?
Such rubbish…
WHY DON'T YOU ASK DONALD ABOUT THIS WAR STATUS? HE KNOWS IT AND SO DO I AND PUTIN!
They are Educated Citizens of the World. Applause
Europe is hurting your God-fearing citizens! Get yourself up to speed on what Europe IS?
Everytime i listen to Andrew Marr, i have visions of VictorcMeldrew from One foot in the grave.
Pmsl .. NATO …RUSSIA war …. Russia can't beat Ukraine ! Ffs you are just scare mongering
I for one cannot imagine why Russia would want to go to the trouble and expense of re-taking eastern europe. Ask the americans why they provoked the present state of affairs and created all this needless fear.
By banning the Russian Language, it causes resentment. Imagine if English was banned in Wales.
I cannot believe that no one knows what’s in the minds of the Russian leaders or perhaps even the Chinese leaders; that all we can do is make our best guesses. Why can’t politicians arrange some personal and respectful meetings with where they can be earnest and frank and put their fears and ambitions on the table so they can truly resolve these conflicts at their deepest level. Only dialogue in this way can ever truly resolve these problems .The truth seems to be that no one truly believes in peace. Amen.
Warmongers .
I have lived in and out of Latvia over many years. Nobody in Latvia except a radical minority want to live under Putin's yoke. There are some Russian speakers who are pro-Putin (but nobody who seems to want to move to Russia to live under the Putinist paradise). There are also Russian speakers who denounce the entire Russian Federation as pure evil.
Estonia with British soldiers on site dragging Europe into direct war with Russia? As required by President Zelensky on the wrong side of history. President Trump has abandoned Europe. Anybody listening out there in BBC land?
4/10/2025 PUTIN ONLY RESPECTS POWER. THE US AND THE COALITION OF THE WILLING SHOULD SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE MILITARY AID TO UKRAINE TO ENCOURAGE RUSSIA TO MAKE REAL PEACE. EMPTY THREATS OF SANCTIONS ARE WORTHLESS AND CAPITULATING TO RUSSIAN DEMANDS WILL NOT BRING PEACE.
AMERICAN CONCESSIONS TO RUSSIA IN PEACE NEGOTIATIONS ONLY BENEFITS RUSSIA'S WAR MACHINE AND DELAYS PEACE.
PUTIN DOES NOT WANT A CEASEFIRE, BUT HE DOES WANT TO PROTECT HIS VULNERABLE ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE, AND HE KNOWS HE HAS ALREADY DESTROYED MOST OF UKRAINE'S. IF TRUMP AGREES TO STOP UKRAINE'S ATTACK ON RUSSIAN ENERGY ASSETS WHILE HOSTILITIES CONTINUE, THEN HE IS CLEARLY CAPITULATING TO PUTIN. NEXT, PUTIN WANTS TO PROTECT HIS NAVY FROM UKRAINE 'S ATTACKS–UKRAINE DOES NOT HAVE A NAVY – SO PUTIN WANTS A MARITIME CEASEFIRE. UKRAINE HAS FOUND A WAY TO EXPORT ITS GRAIN. RUSSIA WANTS SANCTIONS TO END ON AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS AND FERTILIZER. HOW DOES A MARITIME CEASEFIRE HELP UKRAINE?
PUTIN CALLING FOR ELECTIONS IN UKRAINE IS THE HEIGHT OF HYPOCRISY. NEGOTIATORS SHOULD FIRST INSIST ON FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS IN RUSSIA ITSELF- PUTIN HAS FOUND AN ALLY IN TRUMP:
Before we include the insulting demand of elections before President Zelensky can engage in peace negotiations with the dictator Putin,, we should insist on free and fair elections in Russia itself. Remember, Putin stole another election in Russia in 2024 so that he could continue the 2 + decades of his dictatorship after murdering political opponents such as Alexei Navalny and imprisoning others, refusing the formation of independent political parties, eliminating term limits on the president, controlling the media, controlling the courts and election commissions, eliminating a free press, free speech, freedom of assembly, and Putin's regime continues to use the instruments of the state to imprison, torture and murder those who oppose his dictatorship and his illegal war.
Putin and his AXIS allies want to manipulate Ukrainian elections just as they did in Georgia, Belarus, Venezuela, Romania, and Moldova with the hope of causing division and eventually capturing Ukraine politically while they destroy the country militarily. Putin needs to negotiate with Ukraine's legitimate leader Zelensky if he has any interest in peaceful relations with his neighbors. He needs to acknowledge and provide reparations for his war crimes and the massive destruction of the country's infrastructure and cities. Russia must return the thousands of children abducted from Ukraine and taken to Russia. Negotiators defending the future of democracy in Ukraine and the world should not start by accepting the unreasonable demands of a corrupt dictator who has shown no interest in ending his imperialistic designs on the free world. Putin is a dictator that has not honored any ceasefire or agreement he has ever made, and he only backs off when confronted by unyielding power, resolve, and strength. The debacle in the Oval office between Trump and Zelensky was a victory for Putin and Russian imperialism! Ukraine's hope is that the President of the United States will put America's interests first by ensuring that Ukraine remains a free and independent country committed to democracy, the rule of law and integration into the EU and NATO.
By insisting on Ukrainian elections as part of the "peace" negotiations, Putin hopes to remove or weaken Ukraine's war time leader President Zelensky. Putin has found an ally in this request in President Trump. Trump has never forgiven Zelensky for not starting an investigation of Hunter Biden which he believed would help his 2020 re-election chances, and as leverage, Trump with-held desperately needed aid to Ukraine which led to Trump's impeachment. Later, when Biden was President, Trump and his allies blocked aid for 6 to 8 months to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, using immigration as an excuse, until April 2024 when Congress finally approved a $95 Billion dollar aid package to these American allies. The delayed aid resulted in the loss of Ukrainian lives, infrastructure and strategically important territory putting Ukraine on the "back foot" as it faced the full power of Putin's war machine. The delay in aid also had a negative impact on the morale of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians who were fighting and dying for their independence, their democracy and their liberty who felt abandoned by the land of the free and home of the brave.
Trump is also thankful for Putin standing with him in refuting the US Intelligence agency which accused Russia of election interference in the 2016 presidential election. – Why is Trump dismantling the FBI task force set up to confront Russian election interference in 2016,and subsequent elections? Why did Republicans refuse to renew the STATE DEPARTMENT'S GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT CENTER which was the most prominent government agency fighting Russian and Chinese propaganda? Will Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, disband the FOREIGN MALIGN INFLUENCE CENTER established by Congress in 2022?
Is Trump a Russian Asset or just acting like one?
THE UKRAINIAN CONSTITUTION DOES NOT ALLOW ELECTIONS DURING WAR
While Ukraine is at war and under martial law the Ukrainian constitution does not allow elections. Under wartime conditions It is not possible for Ukraine to conduct free and fair elections when 20% of the country is under Russian control, 6 million Ukrainians have fled the country as refugees, 8 million Ukrainians are displaced within the country, and a million Ukrainians are serving in the military, many of which are in active war zones.
UKRAINE IS THE FRONT LINE IN THE DEFENSE OF DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM!
As we try to negotiate our way to peace in Ukraine we should remember that Ukraine is on the front line of a war against the AXIS countries (Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea) who are committed to the destruction and defeat of the world's democracies. Remember the joint military exercises of China and Belarus on the Polish Border in 2024. Remember the presence of Russian nuclear missiles in Belarus in violation of the nuclear non- proliferation treaty which Belarus had signed. -Remember Iranian drones and missiles and North Korean artillery shells raining down on innocent civilians every day in Ukraine. -Remember thousands of North Korean troops engaged in active warfare close to NATO's borders. -Remember hybrid warfare, acts of terrorism and sabotage conducted by Russia, its AXIS allies, and their proxies throughout western democracies including: the cutting of undersea cables, the murders committed against those living within NATO countries, the use of malware and ransomware against companies and infrastructure, the positioning of explosives on airlines, the disruption of airline communication and navigation, and terrorist acts against civilians, etc. -Remember Chinese facial recognition and other types of technology being employed by AXIS allies throughout Europe, Asia and in the Americas to suppress democratic activists. – Remember the monetary and technological support China continues to provide to Russia extending the duration and the destruction of the war in Ukraine. –Remember Russia's destruction of Ukraine's cities and infrastructure and the killing of men women and children throughout Ukraine. – Remember in our negotiations the abduction of thousands of Ukrainian children to Russia that should be returned to their loved ones. – Remember the blatant Russian backed election interference and the use of TikTok in the last Romanian election, and the Georgian stolen election, and the blatant Russian election manipulation in the Moldovan election as Russian and its AXIS allies used the "Play Book" of "State Capture" in an attempt to destroy democracy and install AXIS allied regimes.
-Remember, the AXIS is planning for decades ahead as it captures countries, strategic territory, natural resources, populations, weaponizes food and fuel, engages in hybrid warfare, spreads propaganda and manipulates elections with the goal of "State Capture" while the democratic leaders watch like a frog being slowly boiled. Western politicians think: "It is not a problem today, besides, we have to think of the next election"! David A. Mangs Ph.D.
Im embarrased to live in Denmark who's intelligence services are so biased and naive as to imagine a Russian attack within 6 months. Really? This whole insane talk of rearmament and 'quick thrusts' are all based on the idea, that Russia/Putin is a mad imperialist that wants to invade Europe. What is this based on except being induced by a mad US/NATO as a way to pump defence budgets? Putin has in no way hinted at such an ambition. If Russia is already doing sabotage in Europe, could it be because we're pumping weapons and money into getting russians killed and doing everything we can to destroy Russian economy? WE, the EU and especially the US are creating this confilct ourselves! It's absolute madness.
I'm amazed that you can be as educated as these two gentlemen and still talk of an oncoming war between NATO and Russia. That would mean nuclear annihilation for Gods sake.
Let's listen less to so called military analysts, who might actually love this game of predicting when the 'war will come', and lets listen more to people of reason, who wants to talk, solve things with diplomacy and don't look at Russia through a lense of extreme cultural racism. Do you know how Kenedy avoided nuclear annihilation in the Cuban Missile Crisis? By, in the end, NOT listening to his generals and military analysts and simply grabbing the phone and giving the 'enemy' a call to sort things out. This is what US and EU has refused to do with Russia for 3 years and counting. Now, when a clown like Trump actually does so (only good thing about Trump), we immediately see it as a refusal by Putin to negotiate because he doesn't roll over and commit to a cease fire. Could it be that Russia is just very weary of western arrogance and hipocracy? He is willing to negotiate. Russia never wanted this conflict which is also hurting their people and economy. We just need some diplomats who can act like grown ups and put some effort into negotiating a peace.
Also, again with the f*cking pipeline. A Russian rehersal for an invasion of the Baltic states … eh? Still no one has given a plausible explanation of why Russia would blow up an incredibly expensive piece of engineering that they paid for, that was going to make them a lot of money and could be used as leverage by turning of the gas to Europe.
An excellent piece, more of this please!
However, the combination of lighting and haircut does produce a rather unfortunate visual effect on Mr Moody on my old phone screen
why we cant be all together familly,i feel im in a kids book about two children brother and sister and fights for a toy the finally its they are sharing…so what they do naw they share places like been the owners and not carring,
You would better invite a real expert from Baltic countries, not an arrogant dude from Western Europe, who understands nothing…
Warmongering sells books as well as political points. You can't change geography, and 100 years ago France was not a happy neighbour of Germany. Spain invaded Flanders and by they way Denmark enslaved what is modern Estonia. So going 100 years from today how world will look like? If there be one left….
More history and calm conversation, less hysterics and hyperbole. Great conversation and thanks for the insight. Reminds me of traditional New Statesman.
These Baltic states are all puffed up because they are in NATO. They think NATO will have their backs if there is a war with Russia. They are mistaken, NATO will have too much on its plate to be bothered about them. There won’t be a war with Russia unless some rogue element starts it. Europeans are happy fighting countries that are not able to attack European cities, but have reservations about attacking Russia that can cause enormous damage
When baltic countries say they are preparing for war with Russia what that really means is trying to figure out how to get United States to go to war with Russia.
The nazis have upped their info game have they, the facts go against what they say thiugh, 🤔,lmao
The west have lied for 3 years now but they are niw telling the truth, LMAO, your listening to a rees mog cut out bankers puppet
I’m British (native) and I don’t want to live under this globalist regime
Hello, I'm from Russia, so ask me questions.
Although this is not the topic I wanted to listen to today, it is an intelligent and well considered discussion and exemplary journalism. Not a hint of four letter words (other than politely referring to one that was quoted by someone else), hysterical responses or unnecessary fear mongering. This is how adults discuss important matters and the manner in which we as a species should receive information.
I fear war, and I wonder what motives Putin. Everybody are talking about his desire for "security" or dominance in the geopolitical sfere of Eastern Europe.
But could he be motivated by something that does not lead to war? Carrot or whip? We look only at whip. What could be a carrot that could make him leaving his neighbor countries in peace? Could a commercial, financial, scientific and industrial investment and coopeation program between EU and Russia motivate him to aim for civilian development of his country in stead of building his power inside of Russia on wars and more wars?
Never really been a big fan of Trump but I do feel he's playing the long game with Russia. I think along with Europe they will be prepared to go to War with Russia within the next few years. I honestly feel its the only way to get Putin removed and free the Russian people. The world will be a much safer place. Mind you China is a much greater threat…
5:55 As a younger generation Estonian no way we want any invasion here and in no way are we used to anything!! Think about the younger generation!! What the actual heck are you saying that we are used to this. Stop getting feedback from old geezers, any sane geezer would not say anything like that, no one should be used to such thing!!! Terrible!!
Fascinating and full of insights. Thanks.
Prof.Jeffrey Sachs talk about the Ukraine conflict at the Cambridge Union: https://youtu.be/RiK6DijNLGE?si=C0EE0boF-lHOB03C
My grandparents were displaced from Estonia in ww2. They eventually rebuilt their lives in Australia. Im so saddened to think just 2 generations later its happening again. Best wishes to the beautiful balts❤
Yes, you are right—what is now called Baltic states were the largest Hitler collaborators, just like Western Ukraine. And the remnants of it influence their ideology and constant barking towards Russia—unfortunately they will likely to inflict a war on themselves with their attitude—there are plenty of warmongers in the West thirsty for war
Nato are a bunch of cowards…they will never go to war…unless Trump helps them..
The Baltic states primarily were supporters of Hitlers regime and always resented the Soviet defeat of Nazism. They are teeny tiny countries who are very much anti Russian but roar loudly knowing the US military power are behind nato. They are afraid of the Russian win over NATO in its prox war because of the consequences of having to deal with a rejuvenated Russia and the implications of a declining US.
With regard to Starmer's folly, it's hot air and codswallop but it doesn't need the input of these rabid Baltic states.
Thank you very much for great analysis! Latvian 🇱🇻 people are very proud of their roots and country. I am Latvian and I stand forever with my country!
Re the 'hybrid' war. Look like Russia is learning well from the antics of the CIA!!
Maybe a lot of this is the CIA!!
Given the history of the west not keeping its side of the bargain with Russia, is there any reason for Putin to take Trump's peace declarations seriously without guarantees??
From where I sit, it isn't just the fact that people are 'Russian' speakers in other countries, it's a lot to do with how the native country treat the 'Russian' speakers.
The way Kiev has been treating it's eastern oblasts it's hardly surprising that the Donbas et al invited Russia in.
When we continually treat other countries as enemies, what the hell do we expect in return?
It was hardly a 'full scale attack' from Russia on Ukraine!'. You al keep telling us that Russia is finished because of sanctions etc. Yet we are all awaiting Russia to take over the world. Which one is it?
The Stated Goal of the Communisyts after WW2 was Global Communism. AND IT STILL IS. Whats wrong with you all, cant you see this ????!!!!!!!
Listening to that level of well informed insight is a delight rarely felt… Thank you..
Russia has been at war with NATO for decades. Now Putin has the felon president Trump on Russias side
No. They don’t prepare for war, they are raising the threshold for a Russian aggression. The Baltic states were previously occupied by the Russians. Russians are unreliable imperialists and the Balts know this.
Anyone know which mic stands they are using? Ta!
Lithuania was never credited enough for being the first Nation to fight for independence from the soviet regime, the others followed their footsteps. The energy never changed since. Baltic people were never in the mindset to support Russia’s regime, they have their own identity, language, culture and most importantly – Democracy, which perhaps is never emphasised enough in public discourse. Great piece of journalism, thank you.
