The Tragedy Behind the Label: When Mass Killings Are Called Communal Clashes.

What an irony it is—unspeakable violence and mass killings dressed up with the label of a “communal clash.”

In a true communal clash, both sides suffer losses—though perhaps in unequal measure. But what we are witnessing in parts of Nigeria today is far from mutual conflict. Instead, we see a pattern of brutal attacks where only one community suffers, while the other remains largely untouched—almost invisible. That is not a clash. That is targeted violence.

This mislabeling is not just careless; it is dangerous. It erases the scale and source of suffering, allowing those responsible to evade accountability. Meanwhile, politicians play politics with the lives of Nigerians, reducing human tragedies to statistics or brief mentions in the news cycle.

Lives are being lost. Homes and properties are being burned to the ground. Entire communities are displaced, forced into overcrowded and under-resourced IDP camps where survival itself becomes a daily struggle.

What saddens me even more is hearing that these attacks have been going on for years. If that’s the case, I ask: why haven’t they stopped? Why haven’t our so-called leaders found a way to end the bloodshed? Why are we still promising peace with no results?

Enough is enough. A government that cannot protect its people has failed its most basic duty. This is not the time for silence, spin, or empty promises. This is the time for truth, justice, and action.

Because if we keep calling these massacres “clashes,” we’re not just denying the reality—we’re enabling it.

Dear Mr Seun Okinbaloye, the Governor has not said anything to suggests he better than his predecessor on this issues.
So I think you can help us invite the commissioner of police in the affected areas to come and answer questions on your program since politicians are not ready to scrutinize them.
The Governor said hundreds of terrorists, the number is too much than for our police not to have any impact on them nor traces. It’s unrealistic.
My submission,
Thanks sir.

@Ceemedos24 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Seun, the federal government is paying lip service to curbing insecurity. Fulani who claim to be herders are simply land grabbers.
Benue/Plateau are not land for Fulanis but they are killing and sacking communities

@uncledan32 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

The Governor is clueless and playing to the gallery to the detriment of his people. We blame Akume for introducing a weak man to govern Benue State. The killing is across the entire local government and if not the entire 23 then I can confidently tell you that 15 are already under attack and the governor is busy discussing Ukum, Kastina Ala and Logo. The situation is a state of incompetence, he is neither a politician nor have any strong background but was just imposed out of personal and greedy political ambition by the power that be.

@bigg8568 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Benue people need honest and courageous man to lead them, not this man

@ibukunoluwaodukoya8936 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

This Governor is a joke. Your people are been killed ad you are this calm? I remembered vividly when former Governor Samuel Ortom was there he applied pressure on him. He said Ortom was weak. Now you are the Governor sit up and stop beating round the bush.

@bigg8568 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

I don't think this man is capable enough to lead his people. From my understanding, he knows who the attackers were, but he's obviously afraid of calling them by their name. On this note, i must advise that, Benue citizen, it's up to you people to decide whether to keep this man as your leader or vote him out as you can clearly see that he's not courageous enough to govan

@Yohana-c4b April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

it is easy to bribe the men but not the women, women are more firm in upholding values. Bring a woman to invigilate WAEC the whole place will be tense

@iorlumunTV April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

This is serious

@KennethNjoku-dg1fe April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

We all in Nigeria know exactly the Agenda that our enemies who are the fulanis are pushing, but majority of us pretend abt it.

@daveomoruyi4716 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Benue and Jos have no governors.

@lawrenceanebi1462 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Imagine the governor only mentioning attacks in other zones and downplaying those in zone C. Zone C needs to wake up cus these people don’t care about you.
Even NSA is talking of Afghanistan: that’s foolish comparison

@gumdaniel8475 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Mr Governor please sit up we voted you massively 🙏🙏👍

@kawedaniel4713 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

@mkpomkpo April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

The worst governor in the present day Nigeria. Just listened to the nonsense this boy called governor is talking.

@XCEPTIONALTV02 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Mr governor, you are fooling yourself. Trying to exonerate the headsmen ravaging your state is so foolish that you are not fit to govern that state. Resign and go back to the church

@kennethfranklyn April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

This governor is very stupid

@ChimezieIkegwu April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

@newtonehumadu6019 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Useless leaders

@chimezieani4288 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

The Governor and other people in government are playing politics with the lives of their people. How can you say that those that killed and grabbed lands later come back to settle there and you don’t get them arrested as the prime suspect or the culprit? They are afraid to call a spade a spade, just romancing this genocide 😢

@hyginusnwaoba3435 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Look at the country's Nuhu Ribadu is comparing Nigerian with.what a Rubbish.people Ruling Nigerian are people who don't know there left and Right.Especially the Agent past Criminal party.people joining this party are useless and mad upstairs

@Tenders247 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

NSA wants Nigerians to give the government time and understanding, how ridiculous that sounds, maybe when he is affected directly he will act fast.
Mr Governor, ur Reverend is not reverending at all.

@PrimeFootballHighlights April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Talking like a kid

@amichael2534 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

With all that has been described concerning the attacks in the Benue communities and the challenges that those attacks create in terms of food security, it is high time that the whole Northern governors should come together to hold a summit to address these concerns and loss of the lives of Nigerians. The governors also can sue the Federal Government and ask for the aspects of the constitutions that need to change for State Police and the ban on open grazing all over Nigeria. The time to act is now.

@ShedrackTeiwaiChristopher April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Then what is the effort

@drosayamehraymond3126 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

I don’t trust this man. He’s playing politics

@geraldndubisi5458 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Governor you are not saying the truth

@philipnwaizugbu4681 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

More than 70 killed and you are not doing badly! You guys have failed woefully

@bobbyoj4092 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Bad governments always lie because telling the truth requires honor and courage! Foreigners are invading your state and the country as a whole ,your state should be declared state of emergency and you should be suspended🤔

@peliilayira8475 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Can these crazy people stop putting the blame on global involvements and accept that this insecurity is heinous and disgusting under their watch.

@dorothyekeng9270 April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Mr. National Security Adviser, your government is not doing well, what do you do with the budgetary allocation to your office for all this years. Don't compare Nigeria with all those places you mentioned, you have failed woefully.

@SolomonBolanleSolanke April 24, 2025 - 1:14 pm

Seun! I believe you are not unaware that these criminals are also hearing your conversation with the governor and they have their own strategies.
