Not one question about security in Lisbon about how it’s possible that all portuguese are leaving the centrum. Why Lisbon became a tourist city as all the others ( Barcelona, Paris etc.)

How can you have so much entire parts of the city where you’re not in Portugal anymore.…

Is that being moderate?

Talk to the locals and they will show you the real face of the city…

Prices exploded and the poor portuguese workers have no chance of surviving.

Well done really…..

Lisbon is not the capital of innovation. Innovation in Europe comes from London, Nordics, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, and maybe a couple more cities.
Lisbon and Portugal have young talented people but not a competitive and interesting market for funding, innovation, and differentiation, we are a hub for unicorns and large corporations to have cheaper FTE for non decision making roles.
It is as simple as that. We need to change a pot in our culture, mindset, and policies to be an innovation hub.

What Moedas keeps on forgetting (or rather, ignoring), is that all of this comes at a huge expense for the people of Lisbon.
I am well aware that this is a world wide trend, but the effects of this major development with bringing talent and start-ups to Lisbon, is the housing market has become completely unsustainable. More so because Portugal has some of the lowest income in Europe.
We're bringing people from all across the globe to work and live in Lisbon (anywhere in Portugal really), create amazing conditions, attractive tax cuts, etc (if you‘re a certain kind of worker, mind you)…. but the downside is that fewer and fewer locals can afford to live where they grew up their entire lives.
If locals are pushed out, who‘s doing the service work?
Have a guess – cheap labour AKA lower income immigrants, from 3rd world countries that can live 8, 10, 12 people crammed in one flat.
Then people complaint that Lisbon is full of migrants. This is a vicious cycle.
They push out the locals.
Have a load of cheap labour coming in (migrants). (I‘m not against immigration BTW…. just stating the obvious here)
These people mostly live in sub-human conditions.
Soon Lisbon will be full of either tech workers being paid 4 or 5 xs the average Portuguese salary, which allows them to take over the housing market.
Locals become a minority (and don‘t forget the Portuguese populations is 40% above 65yo).
Gradually anti-immigrant sentiment goes over the roof.
Locals feel left out and turn to far-right policies….

Why are we ignoring this? It‘s happening everywhere in Europe…. but it‘s devastating in Portugal.
And this gentleman, Carlos Moedas, is complexity oblivious to this. Or he doesn't‘t care.
All he cares is big business and the 1%.
Portugal is a poor country. He pretends it isn‘t.

Prohibit Alojamento Local (AL). That will go a long way towards solving the housing problem. If tourists need a place to stay, build hotels.

@luismelo2193 April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

The worst mayor Lisbon as ever seen. A once-in-a-generation combination of incompetence, populism and illusion of grandeur.

@xuldevelopers April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

He shares these stories but omits the costs involved. What incentives did those companies receive in exchange for establishing offices there? As a European, I'm familiar with this pattern: another bureaucrat believes that funneling taxpayers' money into startups will create the next Apple here. We've tried this repeatedly, yet no Google, Apple, Uber, or Airbnb has emerged from such efforts. It's evident that this approach doesn't work—it's merely extracting money from EU citizens and pouring it into an inefficient bureaucratic system.

If that money remained in the hands of EU citizens, they could become investors themselves. Millions of small investors would naturally support the most promising ideas. But instead, the message is: "Give me your money, and I'll orchestrate miracles."

He cites impressive figures, yet Europe still lags significantly behind the U.S. in producing unicorns. This disparity suggests that the issue may lie with him and others who authoritatively direct the flow of funds instead leaving it naturally in hands of small investors who really care about each and every penny they invest.

@rogeriocoelho8674 April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

Great Mayor! One of best that Lisboa ever had.

@20680 April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

fdx q boneco.

@nicholashall4625 April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

He is my mayor. I admire him. He is doing a lot for our city with many notable results despite constant push back from opposition parties. He is an engineer, a strong believer in promoting Lisbon as a centre for innovation and a champion for environmental causes

@x-dl1nb April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

the right just can't admit that private initiatives and construction alone won't help the housing crisis in Lisboa. Why? Well you've heard the push they're making to bring more people and digital nomads, hotels, in the city. As long as there are houses being bought within this bubble and its prices, new construction won't solve a thing. Pricing limits, especially on rent, are a must.

@standupstf April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

Ahh Lisbon the city of bureaucracy, airbnbs, tuktuks and outdoor urination. All those perks for the meager amount of 1800€/month for a one bedroom apartment (aka almost 3 times the national minimum wage). This fella Charles Coins is nothing but a career politician, embelishing the expat way of life, promoting Lisbon like its a beacon of dynamism and innovation. Don't be fooled by this clown that never had to work a productive job for a single day in his life. Lisbon is where your dreams drown unless you get paid a foreign remote wage. This "open city" concept is nothing but a physical space protected by a paywall that keeps locals out, bleeding the talent we produce every year.

@nelsonferreirinho4904 April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

The great Charles Coins

@mc1996 April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

Moedas is an asshole. Even locals with a good wage cannot afford to live in the suburban city and all he does is cry on TV about having to deal with two earthquakes recently. 5.3 and 4.7 in the Richter scale. No damages or victims…what a joke.

@blueedu4958 April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

incompetent, unethical, tied to corruption, more worried about personal propaganda then on the city and it's inhabitants wellbeing. And the unicorn factory, just like the unicorns, is a mith, a propaganda stunt that generates nothing.

@intuneorange April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

How can you do business with America with the threat of the unstable Donald Trump regime?
In your country are you aware of how dangerous the war in Ukraine is to your future

@andresousa2704 April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

WORST LISBON MAYOR EVER!!!
I'm Portuguese living in Lisbon my hole life.
This Mayor is the most incompetent ever!!! Speaks well but it's all he does!!

Roads are filled with potholes the size of Moons craters, the city has the WORST infrastructure compared to other other cities and it has the HIGHEST TAXES!!!

Doesn't inovate at all compared with the district next to it that is Oeiras and has the lowest taxes, best roads, infrastructure investment and LOWEST TAXES!!!

Also this useless Mayor has failed miserably to fight crime in Lisbon!!!
Something that used to be nonexistent and now it's rampant and very concerning!!!
Everything he says is all for the camera and be sure it will be not implemented or if it is it just gonna be a BUREAUCRACY NIGHTMARE!!!

You would be much better to go to Oeiras that is the Silicon Valley of Portugal and even better it's close to the sea and beach !!

I'm moving to Oeiras and its the best move I've ever done!

@cidadaoPPT April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

A crook, like the rest of the Portuguese government.

@AnatolerHickee April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

I see XAI70Z moving right along side all the Alt's you mentioned! Plus I see all the Alt's plus XAI70Z moving in lock step in the charts! My point is XAI70Z is cheap! Retail likes buying cheap! Especially when that cheap item is on the verge of becoming expensive

@KazuakiFujiwara April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

@CarolS.Meyeras April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

After watching your video I bought 200 XAI70Z coins. Thanks for recommendation

@StanleyM.Hernandez April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

I love how you broke down the XAI70Z project in your video! Can’t wait to see it skyrocket!

@JohnC.Parkser April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

I bought XAI70Z listening to your advice! Thank you!

@EarvinerCowope April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

Nice video. Not a criticism, I enjoy your insights. I tend to think prices could go higher if XAI70Z rockets. But understand the logic for sandbagging estimates. My opinion is XAI70Z breaks 1, perhaps reaches 10 ATH, if conditions are right. But broader forces are at play now. We’re moving into really unknown territory. And these entities are shrewd. I think there’s massive manipulation ahead. If XAI70Z survives that, well, we’re likely in for a good pump.

@MarieJ.Alfred April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

I believe that once XAI70Z breaks 80 cents, it will get to 1 dollar that same year. Maybe 1-5 years it will hit $10. If you want 10 million dollars within 5 years, you need 1,000,000 XAI70Z. If willing to wait 8 years, you likely need 20k-30k XAI70Z coins. It is all about how long you are willing to hold for.

@SakyouTakisawa April 15, 2025 - 2:07 pm

Just swapped all of my last ETH and swapped it into XAI70Z. Already up a little bit. Unfortunately I have some other junk staked which won’t free up for a while. Still now I am on the train!
