Two tier starmer
The cost of the UK's asylum system to the taxpayer has risen significantly, with reports estimating it at around ÂŖ3 billion a year and rising, including around ÂŖ6 million a day on hotel bills.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Rising Costs:
The Home Office's spending on asylum, border, visa, and passport operations has significantly increased, with an average of ÂŖ2.6 billion per year between 2021-22 and 2023-24, compared to planned spending of ÂŖ110 million.
Hotel Accommodation:
The sharp increase in asylum seekers and the pandemic have led to a large number of people being accommodated in hotels, costing the taxpayer around ÂŖ8 million per day.
Cost per asylum seeker:
The Institute for Public Policy Research think tank reported in 2024 that per asylum seeker, costs had increased by 141% to ÂŖ41,000 last year – up from ÂŖ17,000 in 2019-20.
Illegal Migration Bill:
The government's 2023 Illegal Migration Bill is estimated to cost ÂŖ3 billion to ÂŖ6 billion for detention facilities, relocating and accommodation for those seeking asylum.
Rwanda Plan:
The Rwanda plan to relocate asylum seekers is estimated to cost around ÂŖ1.8 million for each asylum seeker.
Aid Budget:
The UK spent ÂŖ4.2 billion, or 28% of its aid budget, supporting refugees in the UK in 2023, drawing criticism from aid groups.
Cost of processing:
The approximate figure for processing a case within the asylum system is around ÂŖ12,000 per individual.

Well when people try to flood the U.S. with cheap goods made in some slave labor country, by passing them into the U.S. as a product of Heard Islands and McDonald Islands by means of putting the items into different packaging, then our customs inspectors will catch that and it will be stopped.

@moleculemagician8616 April 5, 2025 - 7:56 pm

What a big mistake blaming the people who are being targeted by the terrorists! Why does a government even exist if it doesn’t protect its citizens from foreign invaders and terrorists?!

Trump is taking from the poor and giving to the rich.

@BP-kx2ig April 5, 2025 - 7:56 pm

I am not convinced he knows what the hell he is taking about.

The naivety is extraordinary and frightening because he probably does not fully understand other major issues – and he is apparently the ‘Leader of the Free World’.

I may be wrong but does the phrase ‘Make America Great Again’ come from Great Britain!

The Great in Great Britain is a geographical term distinguishing the larger island of the countries of England, Scotland, Wales from the lesser island of Ireland. That is why the United Kingdom consists of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Great has nothing to do with being great, wonderful, powerful etc etc.

So, from now on, Starmers lot will be blaming Trump for wrecking our economy and taking us back into the EU with emergency measures while planning a war with Russia and raiding our savings accounts……Cool 😮

@StephenSipe April 5, 2025 - 7:56 pm

As a US citizen, who gives a F if there is no Free Trade in both directions which is Fair Trade. Lesotho? Why are they not part of a Federalized South Africa? I do not want Irish butter if Ireland does not accept US products. Now the Guinness is produced in Maryland, USA, the old sod can be Fair Trade in the EU, or Ireland can go down with the EU.

Look, Europeans, Canadians, and to a lesser degree the UK cannot make their GDP off of the US market without an equal flow of US products to these countries.

Europeans, Canadians, and the UK have hosed the US for at least 30 years on defense spending and trade (tariffs, VAT, regulations). If no French wine or Land Rovers come to the US, only the wealthy in Democrat States will suffer. I am in Democrat New Jersey. We average people drive Toyotas and Fords both made in the US.

BRICS will be the real change

@AishaJackson-b6k April 5, 2025 - 7:56 pm

We voted for President Trump to bring change to our system, and he is delivering as expected. While Europe and other countries may not prioritize U.S. interests, history has shown that when the U.S. economy struggles, the global economy suffers even more. The U.S. will endure and continue to attract the best talent, while other nations, particularly in Europe and Canada, may face greater challenges.
